Ok so I didn't sell the bike I had listed up. So I decided to keep it and build a dune machine. Everyone keeps telling me I need to go to the dunes....so here we go. I went and picked up a nice straight frame with a title yesterday so it will be titled now. Mostly what I'll be doing is either painting or powder coating alot of things on it. The motor top end will be pulled of and new gaskets put on if nothing is needed. Already has a homemade extended swinger. Never been to the dunes and never built a dune bike so anything you guys know I should consider while building please feel free to make suggestions. I'm in no hurry with it so it's gonna take some time. As long as she's done for Imperial invasion that's all I care about.

Nice swinger. Your going to like the extension when riding the dunes. Good luck on the build

Thanx I'm sure I'll need a little luck on my side. What do guys usually run for air filters...stock box or uni/k&n which is better for dunes?

K&N is best for the dunes. They let the most air through and still block sand (I don't recomment k&n for dirt, they will give the best power but let fine dust through)
Get an outer wear for the k&n and run it with the airbox lid off (or not there at all)
As for paddles, stick with some Haulers, or Sand Tires Unlimited sand skate 1's or Padla Brats. A lot of the other brands look the same but are so heavy they will do more harm than good. STU's are light and bulbous (i think thats the word) with the air pressure down (2lbs) they hook up great and have a better top speed than any other paddle. The haulers hook up the best but the hard paddles will knock a couple mph off your top speed, and they will refuse to slide. The V haulers aren't bad either.
Get a flag with a spring at the bottom. The rest just break.
hmm what else..... slow down at the top of hills so you don't shoot off a razorback. They become invisible around noon.

Ok so k&n with a sock. As far as my other 85 I'm gonna keep that one for my desert bike. I've got plenty of time to make this reliable as it aleady runs good.

A K&N will be best. Good air flow.

Stock airbox/lid off with a foam filter for maximum engine protection I say and so do the factory teams. Run a compression check while the motor is in the frame for baseline. Dune season is already here, why tear it down now? I'd just change out the fluids and make sure everything is in tune and ride it for the season then tear it down in the summer if you want to make it pretty.

I have to do a frame change so...if I have to do that I may as well just freshen it up. If I end up wanting to go sonner than later I'll just take one of my other bikes.

looks like the good start to a dune bike, you can also do an extended axle or axle spacers, i would do em, but it wouldnt fit through the door to my shed....lol. umm other than what has already been stated, make sure you ride with a good leader and follow their tracks or you end up in a witch's eye

its where the sand goes into an upside down pyramid, usually swallowing you and your front tire and introducing you to an intimate meeting with the sand

Ok finally a little progress. Got the frame back from the painter. Looks great. Next I will be paiting the swingarm, motor and so on.

Baby steps lol. This is far from a resto. Should look nice though when it's done. I did polish the shock canister. It's been dubbed "white lightning" by me lol.

Nice 250.
That white seat should be cool and comfy in the summer sun. Who made it?
