And because you guys like big pics...

Dirty toolkit, but there is a completed one with the original sleeve in the parts box.

The parts bike. Doesn't look too bad beneath the plastics, but otherwise, just for parts...

http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/8881/img3940jy.jpg
And an owners manual in perfectly legible condition, just a little scratched on the covers. Not sure if these are really worth a whole lot, but if so, I might just sell it (after I make a copy for myself ;) ).

I tried firing it up tonight. Mixed up some gas real quickly with what I believe to be an appropriate mixture, poured it into the tank, and the petcock leaks. I think it's coming from the valve itself, but not sure- the 90* bend pops right out, and it doesn't on the other petcock, probably will swap them over tomorrow.

But it was slow enough to where I could attempt to start it, so I poured some gas in (after I cleaned the tank out), turned the choke on, kicked it over about a dozen times, and nothing. Pulled the plug off, and it's soaked, so I'm thinking the engine is flooded? Carb probably needs a clean too.

Anyways, how do you think I did for $500?

Doesn't look bad to me. Little wet sanding on the plastics, some polish, and should look nice. The parts bike is all there, and I think the green one has an aftermarket carb, by mikuni..? :wondering The piston shaft is a rectangle, not round...

You done well IMO.
I have the exact same after market head light guard just like that and i will be darned if i can find the little bent light mount brackets.
I have them, just unable to locate them. if push comes to shove i may ask to borrow yours to copy.

Congratulations.. It has ITP wheels on it, they will shine up real nice. The carb is a flat slide Mikuni TM carb. The best aftermarket carb available in my opinion. What kind of silencer is on the green one? You did real good.. Definitely got a deal.. I also have one of those light guards..

make sure you check it for spark. dont just go thinking you flooded it cuz the plug is wet. put in a fresh plug and make sure your gteting spark. t3's are known for having faulty stators and flywheels. nice grab though. two sets of nice oem rear fenders. let me know if you wanna part with one of them. i would be interested in them.

ditto on the parts bike im looking for a complete headlight assembly..looks like a great deal i paid 240 for my 85 and its a basket case.but as said above check for good spark.
EDIT. loks like it has an oil leak on the right side??
did you check for compression? 2 strokes need 90psi to fire

Say goodbye to that 200x. Once you start wrenchin' and riding the Tecate the x will be grotesque. The design and engineering on the Tecate will make the x disappointing. And the speed and power will have you push the 200 too far, I blew up 2 motors on the x (just seems slow and heavy). Right on Xpress. Now the fun begins.

Thanks guys, I feel like a million bucks, and am seeing green! :D

And thanks to Xowner and Twilight, I now have enough advise on how to get the bike running tomorrow.

scooterroo: the red bike I am going to part out- lots of good and usable parts just sitting in a box. The red fenders don't have a single crack in them!! Just need to be wet sanded back to a nice red color, and I already tried a little bit of it, and they shined right back to their original color.

code200k: No, that's gas from the petcock being leaky.

hang&rattle: LOL yeah, I was just thinking the very same thing :D I'm sure the 200X will still have a place up here- hoping to get a silencer for it so I can actually use it without getting that.. "stare"..

As for the parts bike, i'm going to go through what I have, clean stuff up a bit, then put it ALL up for sale (after I pull a few parts for the green one- the green one is not for sale!!!), engine included. I have a loan to pay off (which let me get these guys), and because I don't really have a lot of space for more parts, I'm selling it. :)

Thanks guys! Glamy, if you want some parts you see, shoot me a PM. The easier I can get rid of extra parts, the better :)

Also, IT RUNS!! Just as loud as my 200X IMO, but I don't care :D :D

Wound up pouring gas directly into the cylinder, and it fired up second kick. Did it a couple more times, and have come to the conclusion that the carb needs a deep and thorough cleaning. Still need a good petcock, BOTH of them leak :(

^Yeah, I'm a member of that group :)

Some riding pics:

http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/1825/img3969g.jpg

http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/1511/img3958b.jpg

No more riding until I get motorcycle 2 stroke oil- I couldn't resist taking the opportunity to take it for a few spins (who in their right mind would resist the urge to take their first 2 stroke for a spin??) I don't want to jack something up in the engine. I can already tell I'm going to need to do some carb cleaning.

Also, I'd be willing to trade the headlight guard for a brake fluid reservoir for the rear, and an exhaust pipe mount. The one on this one is a clamp with rubber that goes around the pipe and bolts to the frame, don't know if it's for the DG or not... The 6 pack rack is not worth much more than scraps (it it weren't it'd be on the bike already)

I think hang&rattle is right. My 200X feels like a weak toy by comparison! The power is freaking insane once it hits the powerband, and you guys are definitely right about 2 things:

1. These tires SUCK!

2. The bike literally does shake itself apart! I tightened up the exhaust mounts last night, and they were gone after I took it for a spin

You didnt run it straight gas did you? In even 30sec you coulda made major damage...

Xpress

No, not with a 2 stroke. Like I said I put crappy oil in it, but not going to run it anymore without better oil. I've already drained the tank and the carb.

That is funny about you already shook out some bolts. We have all had that happen. Darn sure shook enough nuts and bolts my self.
I have a MAJOR investment in LocTite because of my Tecate.
I am not sure about what your needing for your exhaust but I do see you need the hanger that holds the expansion chamber to frame. The rubber mounted one.
They was thought to be long discontinued but they are not. I got a new one 2 -3 weeks ago from my kawi dealer for less then 20 dollars. If you dealer says they are discontinued, ask him to look for the superseded # because they quite making the originals because they came apart way to easy. the replacements are the exact same looking, just better vulcanizing or something.
here we go,,, it is all in here (#'s, pics) >>>http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php?117966-84-85-exhaust-Tecate-frame-mount&highlight=

It looks like a rubber mount on the rear muffler, where the "arm" is broken off. heck, i don't know it could be a attempt to make a rubber mount ,,, never seen one like that before.
I done a bunch of sand blasting this week end and a buddy had me do some of his parts along with my T-3 parts and it looks like you could work with either one of these 85/86 250R mounts IMO.
(the unpainted ones, the other is that front one you can still get from Kawi)
I can ask if they are extras or what ever, if interested. Heck, i will just add mine too for cost since my Kawi dealer is 1 town away.

That silencer is a universal type somebody has homied on. If you get one that was built for the tecate it will have mounting tabs. Dg was the last company to make them but I don't know if those are made anymore.

Are you sure it's a silencer, because it's not hardly silent, not at all.. :wondering

Probobly oil soaked and needs re-packed, but if you thinks its loud now, slide it off the pipe, kick it over and you'll be surprised just how much silencing it does:D...

And thats a nice find by the way

Bassani silencer? you can see where the strap was. the only thing i see different is the end cap. It's not a answer silencer.

I'd be interested in one of your headlight guards if you're sending them down the road. I need a headlight on mine and hate the stock look... Those ones look decent on there.

Nice pick up !

It says J&R and 1.121. A quick google search didn't turn up much.

And here is the other exhaust that I stuck on to see how it looks:

http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/8606/img3998d.jpg

And once again, I am faced with another broken mount :(

Does anyone have a good exhaust that wants to trade for 2 exhausts and/or some parts???

Great find, I don't think there are any Tecate's on this side of the Mississippi river but I'm still hoping to find on within driving distance. I'm a long time Team Green rider from my dirt bike days, love the KX250.
Glamy, that Tecate in your pics is pure sex. Makes me green with envy.

why do you keep saying that? there are plenty of t3's this side of the mississippi. just need to keep your eyes open. ny, nj, mass, penn, alot of t3's in this area.

hey x, that looks identical to my buddies universal dg silencer.

Thanks bra, i got a few hours in it , it`s still a work in progress ran good at the dunes but it has to gain my trust ! Xpress , why don`t you strip the parts bike to the frame and paint it , then build the best bike out of the two ? Ive got a 34mm kuni for ya if you want , banshee petcock will fit 18 bucks motoworld but if it leaks at the tank just wrap it in teflon ! Oh whats that shock measure eye to eye ?

The red frame isn't much better, features mostly the same defects: Broken grab bar mount on the left side, small surface rust here and there, and slightly fading black paint, ontop of the red frame having rusted foot pegs- In a nutshell, the green KX is the best of the two. With my green KX, I might just get going on a frame repaint, when I do my 200X's, since I want both of them to be black. Also, is a 34mm Mikuni going to perform better than the flatslide I have on it right now??

And what do you mean by "what's the shock measure eye to eye?" Like are the front shocks sitting the same height?

Another problem I have come across: Neither of the headlights work. One of them I discovered has a busted bulb, but the other one refuses to light up. Tried hooking it directly to a car battery, but no cigar, just sparks and does nothing. It's a Sylvania 12V 50 Watt. :wondering:

The rear one in the crate is pretty straight as far as my eyes can see. Doesn't appear to be bent or anything.

Also welding the rear grab bar could be an option... I want to learn how to weld- not exactly sure if this would be the best time to learn how to

You're right, I have seen several from up in the north east states. I stand corrected sir, I'll be more mindful of my comments in the future. PA and NY has allot of nice trikes. I guess when I want one bad enough I head out west of up your way. In the near future though, it looks like I'll be sticking to R's if I want an oil burner.

Several of the guys that offroad around here stopped and talked with me yesterday when I was out riding with my friend, and they're almost blown away at the fact that I have a good condition 84 T3. Theirs was a thrashed and bashed turd
