Put my airbox on for winter. I have a DG exhaust and it's nearly touching the plastic. How close is you're guys exhaust to the airbox? Do you have a heat shield of some sorts? Or is it o.k. to being so close? How hot does the pipe get at the end of the expansion chamber? Thought I should ask for an idea as I have yet to use an airbox on the Tecate. Thanks Team Green- Robby.

My stock pipe is very close also.

I run a CRF pipe on mine and it clears just fine. I do have a DG pipe that I use as a spare and if memory serves me correctly, I think it may have melted the airbox on the bike that it came off of. I really can't think of any way to remedy that off the top of my head, but I would suggest maybe trying to shim the pipe at the mounting points to keep it away from the airbox? Is there any way you can heat the pipe and tweak it away enough to get the clearance you need without adversely affecting the way it fits?

Thanks for replying back fabiodriven. I thought it looked too close for comfort. I tried a type of heat sheild. I took an 's' cleat a few inches long and pipe-clamped it on. It has 3 layers of 26ga. galvinized there. I just got done riding it and felt the pipe right before the heat shield and it wasn't all that hot, but cool in MT too. I'll do some more testing to really see. The air box really tuned the Tecate, my thoughts is they pulled the airbox and just slapped on the UNI, and the jetting was for the airbox.. The jetting through 3 gears is spot on with no bogging. Smoother and cleaner throttle response thus far. Pain to put on though, but caught a thread about your trail riding and I can't ride in MT without water somewhere in the way. Thanks-Robby.

The Wolverine I just fixed had a silver heat tape all over the place on the airbox. I didn't pay attention to how close the exhaust was but obviously they felt there was an issue.....

Good info Dircrasher. I think once work resumes I'll roll a peice of 24-22ga. and pop-rivet it to the box. I think I'm roughly around 3/8" from the airbox now with 3 layers of 26ga. to help, but we will see if my theory will really work.

Silver heat tape does the trick!

Thanks Tecate50, did you have this problem at one time? Around the pipe or on the box, which is better? And a brand name? Just so I'm thinkin' the same stuff, lots of variations of products out there, thanks!

Never had the problem on my Tecate.....I think my buddy runs it on his Tecate airbox, and on the pipe of his Tri-z! Not sure on the brand name of the tape!
