Im new to the forum and got a 82 ATC 200. A friend and I are trying to get my ATC 200 up and running. I'm gettin a plastic fuel tank b/c the OE metal tank has rotted out. She stilll needs a carb and recoil pull starter. Is there any difference in carb and recoil from the different variants of 200's. I found recoils and carbs for the ES, E, S, X, M, Big Red, are they exchangeable from different models? . Ive searched thru old posts and cant seam to find a straight answer. I JUST WANNA RIDE !!!!!!!!!! :Bounce
Thanks in advance.
James

James, you need to get the VIN and then do a VIN lookup. There is a VIN decoder link on the site. That will tell you exactly what model you have. I do not know the carbs are interchangeable. Someone will hopefully chime in.

The carb from an E or ES (Big Red) has a different choke lever but should still work. The pull starter from the E ES (Big Red) and 200M will NOT work. All others pull starters will work including ATC185 and 185S. The carb from a 200X is different (bigger)

So could i run the 200 X carb? more power or would it flood it out?

It should run fine with the 200x carb. It might run a little rich, but wont flood out. I put a 200x carb on a stock 185, and didnt jet it or anything, and it runs great, a little more power, and the jetting is just right (spark plug cardboard brown) Otherwise you could use the 185/200s carb. The 200s just had a slightly larger main jet, and Im pretty sure everything else is the same.

I ran a recoil on my 82 ATC 200 off a 200 bigred e or es not sure what one. It had electric start so he let me use it until I got mine. It worked fine its just that not all the holes lined up so going through water meant the stator got wet sometimes.

Although if u have your case from your recoil you can change the guts out.

Ive seen rebuild kits on E-bay, just hate building recoils, if i can get a working recoil for a reasonable price id rather go that route.

if you have an old pullstart id get used to it. ive rebuilt mine more times than i can count. make sure you have the correct gasket(i made my own). mud riding is not good on the stator/generator (ask the ones in the parts box), and makes timing marks rust to the point where you can hardly see them. if you dont have the decompressor cable, dont get a recoil with the decomp hole. those parts are hard to find.
