My Honda ATC200M Won't Start when wet. If I leave it in the truck over night and try to start it the next day it won't go but if I dry it out for a day or two its fine.
I'm not super mechanical but I would like to fix this if possible.
Any advice would be welcome. How do I waterproof my ATC?
Thanks

Dump some Methelhydrate in your tank....The Coast is the worst for the condensation in the fuel....Plugs don't spark with water on them. also have a good spark-plug cap...little dielectric grease go's along ways also.

I got some spray at NAPA that they actually sprayed a 120 volt fan motor with, dropped it in a buckek of water and the sales guy reached in and pulled it out while it was running (no blades of course.) I'm just scared to try 'new and improved' stuff.

Many many years of di electric grease on contacts has worked flawlessly and was factory design so that would be my first choice.

Sometimes with cold/hot, wet/dry issues, people will get it running and then heat, say the coil, with a hairdryer to see if it craps out 'when warm', for instance.

Electronics cold spray can be used the other way too.

When I feel the need to 'wash' an engine. I fire them up and before they get warm,

I'll spray connections and areas VERY carefully with a hose one at a time to see if/when/where it causes the prob. Sounds like you could almost use a hand squeeze plant mister sprayer thing since yours sounds like it's dampness dependent.

I have one trike that I'll totally blast the spark plug and it dies so I KNOW that's where the prob is...as opposed to washing the whole thing and then scratching my head when it won't run.

I did use that spray electrical connection waterproofer on my tractor, wires, dist cap etc etc and I can blast that thing all day long and it won't die whereas before, simply dampness would cause it to arc across the dist cap which I could only see in the dark and discovered THAT prob quite by accident.

Thank god wer're not working on airplanes.

Hope that helps.

Some will say spraying with water is a bad idea, but if you think about it, sometimes we get caught in the rain or a big puddle and it would be nice to know that we won't have to walk home.

ps - do you mean the starter won't spin? or it just won't start like no spark

Thanks for the tips I will give those things a try.

Starter will spin but no spark. So what you guys are saying seems like the easy solution.

I had an 83 atc200 which is very similar to a 200M and had a similar problem...when I rode in water. The magneto/stator would get wet and the bike would lose spark. I'd take off the pull starter and spray something to displace the water (carb cleaner or alcohol). Let it evaporate for a few minutes then would be good to go again.
