Clarke plastic tanks

why do they turn a yellowish brown color, after a while it seems like they all turn that color. im gonna send clarke an email about that.

I purchased a red one for our 110 and its still the original color. I was not very happy with it for a few reasons. #1, it had plastic shavings all inside of it both around the cap and where the fuel lines connect. #2, the damn cap leaked! We first used an old inner tube as a gasket but it swelled up and didn't work. We did get it to stop leaking with some sort of rubber gasket. My point is that when you spend $100 on a 20 year old 3 wheeler and $120 on a new plastic tank you think you would have more trouble with the 20 year old machine than the new overpriced piece of plastic..

I had a white one on my X back when I was racing and didn't have any problems with leaking and such, but if I ran Klotz fuel in it, it would turn brownish yellow. I quit using that and went to VP and it turned back the original color. I don't know if it's the color of the gas or the additives in it, but all the racers that used Klotz, the tank would turn colors. I never ran any pump gas in it, so I don't know if it would make it turn or not. Those 20 year old metal tanks are getting hard to find nowadays that aren't eat up with rust. If the bike is worth it and you plan on keeping it, plastic is the only way to go.
