Probably safe doing it only every dozen or two rides if you just trail it up, but for racing.... Every time.

i did twice this season on my bike and i just trail ride, somtimes hard but more often not hard. changed when i first got it and noticed a difference in the way the clutch felt and the smoothness of the shifting. dont know how good it compares to other other brands but i use belray full synthetic. not to highjack your thread but what oils do you guys run or suggest?

I change mine after a hard weekend in the desert, other than that it just gets putted around and I dont change it for a while. of course it is now like a ford where it has the constant oil change system...oil leaks out new oil gets put in

Those of you that say you change it every couple trips, or only several times a year. Have you ever done it every ride?

Do it once, once you see how dirty it is after that one ride you might change your mind.

the MXer after every race and the playtoy R gets it after every three tanks of gas. The rest get it every 5 tanks. But I ride 2 strokes so I kinda suck down the fuel. If you love your bike you'll change it more often

I change mine ever couple rides. But half the time my rides are around the field with my son so I can't get out of first or second gear. Amazingly it still shifts really good even though the guy who owned it most of its life had no idea there was tranny oil. I have heard of some people using ATF instead of regular motor oil. What's the reason for that?

ATF is better to use than Regular motor oil. Motor oil should be the last oil on the list,

Not a racer, but i do some fast trail riding on seasonal roads. I change my tranny oil about every 200 miles or so....seems to translate to about 10 gallons of fuel give or take depending on how hard im on the happy lever....and i use what my Honda service manual recommends for oil, 10w-40 motorcycle oil (wet clutch compatable)
