My atc is a 81 honda 200. Put a spare motor on today with fresh oil, put carb back on which had sat empty 4 months after being cleaned at honda, put cleaned gas tank on with fresh gas, put new throttle cable on. When it starts it idles wide open immediately???????? pilot screw, idle screw at previous settings, throttle cable recoils fine-idle not affected by turning the handle bar-routed like manual, when choke ingaged while running floods out like it should. Any ideas and can an air leak really cause it to idle fast I meaning screaming instantly. thanks for any help

You may have put the slide in the carb wrong. Take the slide out and make sure the beveled notch in the slide corresponds the idle speed screw in the slide housing. It is possible to put them in backwards and get the cap threaded on and wammo, you start it up and its screaming because the slide is basically held halfway open which translates to very high RPMS on an engine running with no load....

something carb related... and ditto, the slide is probably the culprit.

You also said you replaced throttle cable as well? It could be binding, or not adjusted correctly either at the thumb throttle, or the carb cap. Take the carb off the bike, or at least the intake boot going to airbox. Look inside the carb from the back side (airbox side) and be sure the slide is all the way down. Its either the cable, or the slide is in wrong, as stated above.

And make sure the slide freely moves up and all the way back down. I often check this just prior to bolting the carb back on if I clean it out to make sure I'm all good to go.
