View Full Version : the range a 185s and 200x can travel on one tank of fuel?
planning a ride one day across rincon shortcut approx 25 miles one way I was wondering what the range is on a 200x and 185s and crf 50 dirt bike, running out fuel up there would be dangerous cause its far away from civiliztion on foot

25 miles on one tank shouldn't be a problem for the 200x and 185. I own one of each and have ridden them enough to know. 50 miles on the other hand may be a stretch depending on how hilly and how hard you ride. If you ride really fast and hard you might not even make it 25 miles. Do a quick carb tune before you go and clean your air filter on both machines and that'll help a little. If you had 2-4 extra gallons of fuel with you and you stuck to just the 50 miles you should be fine no prob. These things can get 20+ miles to the gallon if you rode nice and slow and it wasn't very hilly. Good Luck and have fun.

I think they get way more than 20mpg.... My 200X seems like one tank of fuel lasts forever- I can ride a couple weeks with about half an hour each day or two and not run out of gas.

Get a rack. Hell, even a backpack and a spillproof container with a gallon of gas.
Then use it, if both run out, in one to tow the other back.

I like the tow idea. Except you'll be towing the 200x with the 185 I can tell yo that right now.
They can get better than 20mpg, thats why i said you can get 20+ mpg. It all depends on how hard you ride. I've been on an MXtrack with my 200x and the fuel did not last very long. Versus when I'm on a trail or just plain riding around it'll prolly last all week like you were saying.

i know on my 250es i rode all day, approximately 50 miles or so on 1 tank and still had alittle over an 1/8th of a tank left..

How much gas does the tank hold? I have forgotten. Its been along time since my 200x has been together, let alone with me on it. But I think I remember maybe it holds 3 gallons? So, if it will get 20+mpg it should make the round trip fine on 3 gals. I may be wrong. Does anyone know how much it holds?

185s = 2.3 gal including .4 gal reserve

I'd guess closer to 3 gallons on a 200X, not entirely sure what the exact size is. If anything, get yourself a 6 pack rack and plop on a 2 gallon tank with gas :)

Ok, I found a site that says the specs. It's 2.7 gallons for the 200x, including reserve. http://www.venustel.com/~tkeister/workzone/84-200X.htm
I remember being able to ride all week on my 200x. That was about an hour everyday or so at our local trails. If you figure you'll get around 25mpg you should be able to do a 66 mile trip. Providing you just ride moderately with no hotrodding or sporting around. I would probly pack some extra gas just to be safe though if you're going to be far from civilization.

Earlier this fall I did a one day 71.5 mile trail ride with my 200x. I filled the tank full when I left. Back at camp I had plenty of gas left.Prolly 1/4 tank or so.

if your going to be far from civilization a couple extra gallons of fuel and some food and water would be smart to take anyway. but i never once worried about running out of gas with my old 185.

i know i can ride my 185s all day, as hard as i can ride, on one tank of gas. i am turning 27" vampires. we normally start about 10:30 in the morning and stop about 8:00 at night, during the summer. gas has never been an issue. however, it would be a good idea to pack for the worst. the older i get the more i realize that sh#& just happens.
