I'm trying to get a rear brake drum for my '85 200s. Will the '81-'83 185s drum work? The Honda part number is different, but that doesn't necessarily mean it won't fit. They DO use the same brake shoes, but I don't know if it will fit the axle splines.
Anyone have any ideas?

I really don't know for sure. I have an 81 200 drum you can have for shipping costs if you want to find out!

Thanks for the offer. The actual situation was that I've tried to buy used brake drums for my 200s a couple times now, and they always seem like they're pretty worn out. I stumbled into a NOS drum for 81-83 ATC185 on Ebay, but I didn't want someone else to buy it out from under me.

Well, the price was right, so I bought it. Since nobody knew whether it would work or not, I decided to take a chance. I will resell it if it doesn't fit.

Yeah, well you WOULD say that, wouldn't you? J/K. I'll find out and I'll PM you if it doesn't fit. Gimme a week. I don't think I'll be able to try it until next weekend.

Ha HA -yeah i bought a nos drum a while back on ebay for my prior 185s and it was incorrectly labeled i guess cuz it didnt work or look the same(my fault) . Again,-I'm not sure if theyre the same from 185s to 200s (might not be). The drum cover is a slightly different size tho. Just barely different. I know that. ....Also the 83' 185s drum has holes on it (going round) and is lighter than the 81-'82' drum, but they are interchangeable.Sorry dont know about the 200s.- Well you can help me out if it dont work for you-let me know.-no rush ...thanks

Frankencelery,-If the one you get dont work....I looked for that drum I had bought a while back and i still have it. It had a number hand written -cannot confirm : 42622-958-000. I looked up the part # and it looks like the 1984 200s drum # 42622-968-000. Mine could be written wrong not sure. Could be the one you need? Can you get a couple pics of the drum off your 200s for me to see if it looks like this one? And one of the other drum you got too. Sorry I cant post a pic but if you pm me with your phone #, I will send you a pic of this one I have..... It has very light surface rust on some spots of the lining from sitting that will clean off once you use the brake.(very minor). You cant even feel it. It was definitely never used & has no wear. If you post a pic of yours and it looks like mine I will ship mine to you no cost. If its correct,-then maybe...........

I have swapped 185 drums to 200's before but that is not saying that all model 185's will fit any model 200's. I may have just gotten lucky. BUT I think you will be ok. As stated above, I have seen some that look different with the holes in them but the splines and sizes still be the same. That could explain the part number difference.

Yeah, it's been a while since it was apart, but I'm pretty sure my 200s drum has the holes. The one I bought is solid. I don't have it yet, but I'm expecting it in the next day or two. 3Wheelrider, I wrote down part numbers, and I've got them at home, so I could compare to the number you gave me later tonight, but the real test is going to be when the drum gets here.

Its probably an 81-'82'drum then that your getting (no holes) but will work the same. You should be good. I'll have to get a pic of the NOS drum I bought from ebay on here, maybe someone can tell me what machine its really for........Also,-the drum part # seems to change every year and model making it more confusing.
