View Full Version : ATC70 Headlight - No voltage at green wire

I just picked up an 85 ATC70 and I want to install a headlight. Just to verify the voltage I put a voltmeter (positive side) on the green wire lead coming from the stator and grounded to the frame but there was nothing. The bike runs fine and my voltmeter is good. Thoughts? Does anything need to be hooked up at the stator to get that wire "hot"?

No nothing needs to be hooked up at the stator.. There is a lighting coil in the stator that should be giving you the power.. If it is not then I would say that coil is bad.

I just figured it out. I didn't know the voltage was AC on these bikes. I wired up a 12v 25w headlight off of an old moped and it was surprisingly bright. I have an old 12v 55w driving light I am going to test and mount up later tonight. I might even throw on a red marker light on the back for a taillight....

How did it turn out? Got any pics yet, I want to do the same thing to mine but am curious about how to do it aftermarket.

Not well. The driving light I had was 12v 55w and was not bright at all. I played around with the moped light but I just couldn't find a way to make it look good. So I bit the bullet last night and ordered a light from DRATV (http://dratv.com/athekitinwo.html) and a mount kit (http://dratv.com/hemobr4.html). I also plan on ordering a switch like this http://www.all-battery.com/browseproducts/Handle-Bar-Mount-On-Off-Switch.HTML today if I cannot find one local. I'll post up pics once it is all done.

Are you happy with the light? Are you using the 12v bulb that came with it or a 6v bulb?
