strange sounds from my sx

I own a 1985 250sx and have been hearing some strange sounds from the motor. It is a grinding and sometime smacking sound coming from the engine when im in low gear. I'm hoping it is just in need of an oil change. the bike was bought of someone who owned and USED it for a year. The engine has defiantly seen at least a year of hard use. Please help me out

Does it do it while in neutral or when your riding it ? Could be as simple as the timing chain needing adjusted .

It does it while im driving in gear one and two, I dont know much but some other troubles im finding the gears sticking and some times when i gear down it dont kick it till i hit the gas specially when roleing down hill. Its like it goes into neutral ontill i hit the gas.

Sounds like your trans is going out. Something is wrong. I would look into getting it fixed right away and not drive it very far because its letting you know now, that your gonna be walking.

Have you actually CHECKED the oil - to make sure it has some/enough?

Yes I did but were changing it any way. I hope bad oil is the problem cause im planning on buying a prject bike last thing i need it to have to buy another SX for a transmission or engine.
