Hey there. bought a 1985 atc 70 about a month ago. it was the first bike I owned as a kid and thought it would be fun to do one up. So i have done the looks area pretty good. Now I have ordered the Lifan 120 cc electric start motor.
I am a little un easy about the wirring. Not sure what the CDI is . Just wondering if there is any good ideas out there on what I need to do to prepare for the motor on Monday. I will post some pics as it goes together. Thanks in advance for any ideas you guys can throw at me.

There are tons of ideas. Mounting the battery in side the frame on the lower splash guard for one. Taller handlebar risers and handlebars for another. There are just so many things you can do depending on your budget. Billet parts. Aluminum wheels. Suspension front ends. I mean how crazy do you want to go? Custom paint. Custom seat covers. PRM rear grab bars. Glamis Dunes in their atc70 section shows alot of neat converted 70s. Several members from Glamis Dunes post over here. Headlights and taillights are always a good idea as well.

I am ready to go crazy with it. However I do want to keep it somewhat stock looking. I have painted the tank and new plastics, did the new blue seat cover and rims and tires. I would like to do bars but would like to get the new motor running first. The battery tray is my next battle. I dont have a welder or anything. were should I get bars ? I assume I would need a break lever and purch for them? Is it easy to do a twist throttle on them ? I will put some pics of were I am at so far. thanks

ATC70.com can sell you a whole bar set up if you wish. With taller bars and risers, you need a longer throttle cable, but atc70.com can provide that as well. They can sell you the whole kit at once, which may seem expensive, but when you go and start shopping around and have to get the parts from several different places, it can add up really fast with shipping and stuff. You may be able to ask atc70.com if they can make you the assembly for your battery tray or you need a good buddy with a welder and some scrap metal. ATC70.com and Dratv are pretty good sources for parts. You will see atc70.com sells custom pipes which are really bolt up for stock 70s. They also sell some billet goodies as well. So just jump in and start having fun. Best of luck with your project and get some pics on here.

Thanks for the heads up on the bars. I went and ordered the black with twist throttle, very nice. I tried to attach a couple pics of the 70 , we will see if it works. As you can see in the pics I have black rims on the back. I am still waiting on the polished rear rims due to them being bent when they were shipped to me.
? for ya. would it be a good idea to put the factory pull start oo the lifan motor ? I see DRATV has the conversion for it.

Alot of people use that conversion.... the Lifan will more than likely have a kick starter, which means cutting the plastics or not bolting them down... both bad. Of course, if you go electric start, you could just stick with that. Some people even put them in gear and roll start them too... lots of options.
