Hi my name is Nick and im from Manhattan il.. I have a 84 or 85 Honda 200s three wheeler and need a little help.
The recoil rope pulled out and I need to get it back together. I had it apart, put the rope back in it but the cord would not retract all the way. So my brother decides he is going to start it and does it again. So he takes the recoil off and now we cant seem to figure it out w/out a manual or some directions. We can get it to work w/out the comp. release. When the outer spring is on, it catches and we can not pull the rope out. The dawgs work fine. I guess all im asking for is a page in a manual to help me out. Thanks, Nick

You need to pre-load the spring inside the pullstart in order to allow it to recoil back in.

your new so i wont scream, there is a manual in the world class help section.you can do a search cause this has been gone over a million times and here is what you need.and as stated above you have to wind the spring and hold it while you rewrap the cord

I watched a you tube vid of some guy doing that but what I need is to see a directions sheet or manual. I seen him wind it 6 times and then run the rope threw the cover and onto where the rope wraps up. I get that part. Im stumped on the compression release and where the black outer spring goes. I have a basic idea, but just was hoping to see it in a shop manual. Thanks for your reply.

A good trick to preload the recoil starter is wrap the rope around the spool then tie a piece of line (i use 50 lbs test fishing line ) to the rope then wind it around the spool one half turn. Then place spool in the housing and feed the fishing line through. Then pull the fishing line out until you get to the rope carefully pull rope though the hole in the housing and clamp it with a pair of channel locks. Then feed rope through handle and tie off and Voila its done then install on motor . On 185s with recoil release you may need to go full turn around spool with fishing line , they seem to hang up a bit. Or remove the compression release all together not really needed on 185s or 200s.
