My tank on my 200x was rusty inside, surface rusted heavily in the tunnel and dented. With the recent thread about rusted tanks I thought I'd start this thread with what I've done. This is how it looked to start with.
Notice the surface rust at the bottom

After 2 treatments with the Naval Jelly http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1876643&CAWELAID=344292292. Half a bottle each time shaken in the tank of and on for a couple hours. Then I poured some DW40 in it and let it sit until my Kreem tank liner kit came in.

I didn't get any pictures of the inside after the 2 pretreatments that came with the tank liner kit but here it is after I did the tank liner final coating. It's not a pretty as some I've seen but it's got a good coating in it. I just kept turning the tank instead of dumping the excess and that left some runs inside but I should be OK.

Now I was ready to address the surface rust on the outside of the tank. First I blasted it clean of the rust and OEM paint. And then applied a coating of KleenStrip rust remover to get any traces of rust that might have been missed during the blasting. I the years I've been doing powder coating work I've found that just blasting isn't always enough. Days after the substrate has been blasted and stored, rust can start to reappear. I leave this treatment on over night.

After the rust remover has had time to work and dry I go in for a final blasting. This is the tank ready for the dent repair then final finish.

I talked to a friend of mine today and he told me what I needed to get to fix the dent. I'll get it sometime this week and we'll fix the dent next Saturday (if he's off work). The dent is in the bend of the tank just behind the filler on the right. See in pic.

I had planned to just have him straighten it then Bondo it but he talked me into leading the dent and that will allow me to be able to powder coat it instead of paint. He's very good with body work, so he will be doing the metal straightening but I'll be the one doing the leading (under his close supervision of course) and I hope to be able to get the powder coating late next Saturday. I'll get some good pics of the leading and dent repair when we get to it. I'm still debating the colors I'll use for the finished product. I had planned doing all black tank and plastic but I'm now considering red white and blue like the 85 200x's. I may start a pole thread and ask for advice and pictures of some of the 85's red white and blue. Opinions are always welcomed, if tactful. Negativity helps nothing.
