So I lost one of my axle nuts on the 81 R (Durablue axle) and I am having problems locating a replacement. It is not your average axle nut. It is bigger in diameter than any other axle nut I have seen. I checked all of my other trikes and surely enough all of those have smaller axle nuts. Dirtcrasher gave me a bag of axle nuts to try out (I'll have those back soon Steve) and one of them is actually the right diameter, but the thread pitch is wrong. The axle appears to have a coarse thread pattern, coarser than the nut I got from DC. I called Durablue a while back and spoke to a tech that didn't list a nut for that axle. He suggested I try a nut for a 200X, but the only reason he suggested that was because it was another ATC that he did have a part listed for. To most non-trike people they see "ATC" and assume the part is going to be the same. I'm sure after dealing with 450 R's and other modern stuff all day he was very easily stumped by a question referring to an ATC. I might just load it up and drag it over to DC's and have him measure it up, but it's a matter of when I have time. In the mean time I was curious if anybody may have an answer to this. Thanks.

The 81 and 82 250r durablue axle nut is a large coarse threaded nut that comes special to the axle unlike most all other makes that just use the stock nuts . I'll look to see if I have one . Can you post a pic with a mic at the threads ?

Only if I get it over to Dircrasher's. If I get it over there I will take a pic. Thanks a lot Shortline.

How'd you manage to loose the nut? I remember when I got that axle thinking what an odd size those nuts were. Hope it didn't fall off while you were riding. I lost one off my 350X once but was only going about 10 luckily.

There must have been a missing cotter pin. It didn't fall off while I was riding, thankfully I noticed it before the wheel fell off. It is definitley an odd size, that's for sure Todd.

i bellieve that the durablue axle for the 1st gen aircooled R's is the same as the first gen 200x unit so the 200X nut may be the ticket

why not bring the other nut to a specialty fastner store. they would be able to measure it and should be able to tell you what size it is, and get you one.

try Fastenal

If not, contact Durablue with some pictures?

don`t mean to resurrect old threads (that is a lie...I mean to)

but did a search for my own issues...found this thread...didn`t get the answer till today

my 1st gen R Durablue I just got was missing the hub-nuts...Ended up buying a thread guage

answer is: 7/8-14 is the hub-nut thread pitch on a Durablue 1st gen 250R axle....just in case someone else searches this as I`m sure Fabio figured it out by now

Actually I hadn't. I was planning on taking the nut off of the other side and going up to Fastenall Saturday to finally git 'er dun. How were you able to procure this information?

EDIT- Never mind. I just re-read. Thread gauge. Der.

Thanks!

I`ve also been a machinist for 15 yrs.

I manage a manufacturing plant that makes .50 cal machine gun parts for military

not bragging just letting you know i don`t blow smoke up arses:lol: as I know you are a clever man who doesn`t believe anything he hears and only half of what he sees

I would have known beforehand but my guage set was missing the 14 pitch guage...I knew it was 7/8 as the major thread diameter was like .865 (.875 is 7/8)

got a new set yesterday from MSC and guaged it, then used a thread-chasing set (not the same as thread dies) and fixed a boogered thread...used the 7/8-14 so I know the guage is correct as well

Well I'll be. That's been bothering me for a long time now. I have to get it done now with Trikefest right around the corner. Think I should just get it at Fastenall? I have to go there anyways. And thanks a lot!

No Problem...and yeah Fastenal should have it. Cool thing is, Sidney, our hot little Fastenal local saleswoman said she`d drop them by my plant for me...bonus!

The one I just got from KASEY was missing the nuts and I just grabbed some stock 200X ones out of my hardware bin when I was ready to install the axle and.....no friggin` dice. I hate gettin all ready to bolt something up and getting kicked in the mouth with the whole "gotta buy some more hardware before you proceed" issue...happens to me all the time.

Had I known how hard it is to get a SPROCKET for this @#$%& axle, I would have thought twice (not really but it sounds good to say it) about buying this axle.

Did another search here and found your post about Sprocket Specialists and I`m gonna call them in the morning and order a 38T....so thank YOU!

Just to confirm everything, I did get my 7/8ths x 14 castle nuts today (ordered through my local ACE Hardware) and they are in fact the right size. Thanks again!

Good deal !!! Glad you finally got them . I need to write that 7/8x14 down because it like every old 81/82 250r durable I get seems to be missing just one LOL .
