I bought a 250sx knowing that the shifter was broke, the spline is pretty mangeld. All the gears in the transmission work and the machine runs great. I just need a few ideas about how to make the shifter work on it.(I'm just trying to find a good solution, this bike is just a crusier so its not going to take much abuse) Thanks for any advice. Tedd

Well you could just weld it on there permanently.

Use a hacksaw and continue the shifter gap opening past the other side, it helps it clamp better.

If you MUST - Weld it on. Use dripping wet rags wrapped behind it and just tack it on, a 4" grinder gets it off very easy in the future........

You can also build up the shaft with a weld and then re-spline it with a dremel and clamp the shifter back on.

I had my shifter come off when I was in ganaraska riding. I just bought a new one since my splines were ok. All the other guys were pushing for welding. it seems like a good idea since a grinder can remove it if you need it.
