View Full Version : General consensus of JB weld for crank cases?

I was wondering what the expert opinions were as far as using JB weld for an inner crack case as opposed to just an outer side cover (like all the ones shattered by flying chains)

I have one inner case that was dropped and is bent and cracked, everything is still attached, but it needs to be bent back to match with the gasket shape and sit flush with the side cover, and there is a small crack on the bottom.

If I use maybe 80 grit sandpaper, and use JB weld on both the inside and outside of this, will it be okay? Don't know if there's a good chance of it disintegrating and ruining the oil, or if it's reliable.

Really don't want to spend the money for a new case and take EVERYTHING apart.

Any tips?

Spend the 20-30 bucks and get it tigged up. If you cant find anyone shoot up to my place and ill get neighbor joe to do it. He is the real deal, been doin it for 45 years

Alright. Thanks for the offer. If I go that route I will let you know, figure you're close by anyway, as last time I was out your way it only took maybe 30 minutes to get there.

It's the bottom, I'm gunna get a picture to post up to see what you all think. I'd really hate to have to strip it all down, but I will as I plan to have this under water, mud, snow, everything. I know metal expands + contracts with heat and cold, but it may be too small to be relevant in this case.

Here's some pictures, can see it is bent out of shape, and cracked. I hope that's the only damage to it, all that I noticed but to be honest, I was only focused on that spot.

I'm hoping it can be bent back into shape without snapping off the missing piece. And I'd need to strip it all down to get it tig welded, or can it be welded altogether?

It will most likely snap when you try to pull it back into place, no big deal at all. Dont even consider jb for that. Def needs to be welded up.

I was gonna say, good luck getting that back into shape without it breaking.

Whats that an ES right side case??

300 version of the SX/ES. Anyone know if it can be welded if it's still assembled? If not, I may just get another case if I'm gunna have to strip it all down anyway. I HAD another, but gave that + rest of engine away for free. Depends on if I get can that junked engine back cheap.....

With a TIG weld on it, think it will be sealed 100% for underwater escapades? Can't risk water/mud getting in there. As long as it's on the bottom, you'll never see any weld on it. Especially cause my skid plate was welded on!

Yes jb weld is junk, but if you want to use an epoxy I highly recommend a 3M product called BELZONA. It is the cat`s arse!!!
