I got gas pouring from my carb vents when I turn fuel on. This started after having my carb for unrelated reasons. I checked float valve and its performing normally. Float drain does not leak.
Anyone got any ideas?

you mean float overflow? Fuel on, engine off?
engine running creates vacuum and it can try to leak out the other vents.
Starting at the bottom, there is a float bowl drain right on the bottom.for draining all the gas for storage/bleeding water out.
Then there's an internal brass tube that sticks up about the level of a full float bowl and should overflow if the float level is too high. theoretically keeping it from flooding the engine in the event the float sticks.
You can try tapping on the float bowl lightly with something hard, like a screwdriver handle to jiggle the float and needle. and sometimes that will stop the leaking.
The other one(s) are simple atmospheric vents that allow air into the float chamber so fuel CAN flow.
I usually blow into the fuel inlet and turn the carbs over to see if the hissing stops before I put them back on.
I just don't enjoy the olympic wrestling match required to get the 85 and newer carbs off and back on.
As careful as I am with those, it never surprises me that they leak right away until I tap them. or open the drain and let a half quart of gas drain thru the float valve and bowl and back into the gas can.
You can also drain the float bowl with the drain screw and blow GENTLY into the fuel inlet to hopefully dislodge the teenytiny whatever is plugging it.
Sure doesn't take much to plug them.
I just hate to see you have to take it off again.
Just do NOT ride it with a gas leak.
They can and do Flash into a 3 foot ball of flame.
ANY chance the floatbowl O ring funny gasket thing is leaking?
you can also put some small lines on the vents and drains to be sure where it's coming from.
Make sure you let us know what it is/was.

lol, olympic wrestling match is a great way to describe it.
Yea the float bowl O ring def needs to be replaced (im going to replace that today), but i dont see any fuel coming from there. When i look at those atmospheric vents tho, you can see fuel just pouring out. I pulled it last night and blew into the gas intake hose and worked the float valve, and it appeared to be cutting off flow. But after messing around with it this morning (lol sober), i do hear a faint hissing when valve is closed. I'm going to try to clean it out and will follow up. All in all it has to have something to do with that float valve not shutting off fuel flow. Am i right?

In my 86 250r carb I had a burr in the brass part of the seat where the float needle sits I cleaned it up with a drill bit turning it by hand backward and the polishing it with a wooden q tip in a drill with some chrome polish. I replaced the needle too and make sure what ever you do is clean the fuel tank and petcock assembly and spray out the card real good.

Figured it out. I used RTV silicone to hold the gasket in, and im pretty sure it expanded into the float, and wasnt allowing the float to rise. So, got a new gasket, and cleaned entire carb and jets with B12, Put it back together and she's runnen like a champ. Just in time for the weekend.
Thanks for replys. Long live 3 wheelers!
