hey guys today i decided to try out a mud hole id riden by for awhile but never gone through with my freshly running 85 250es Big Red! well i walked into it a bit and figured it wasnt that deep. so i drove in and come to find out the hole is deeper then me and im 6 foot. so i floated the wheeler to the side and since i was just with my lilttle sis i couldnt pull it out of the hole to get it out of the water but the water was just below the airbox at this point. So i drained the airbox and drove it up the hill. Its smokin a lot and its bogging. I havent started it since then. What is my next move? How do i get all the water out so it doesnt do damage. Or have i already done damage? Thanks in advance

drain all the fluids and put fresh oil and gas with a little fuel stabilizer take the air filter out and dry it out good and see what happen if theres any water in the crankcase or the cylinder dont just let it sit in there or you will have problems

drain the gas, and drain the bowl on your carb, and drain the oil. then you should be good to go. also dry your air filter

my suggestion...change oil...get it running, like now! let it run for a while, until you feel comfortable your oil has soaked everything and the engine is hot, imediately change the oil again, while its hot. and i would imagine that you are good from there...that method has always worked for me with any water scares...but you never know

He has a good point, you want to do it now before the rust starts to form inside the engine. Don't wait 3 weeks or something.

Don't forget to check your rear diff and drain the brakes. If you went that deep......

Good tip on checking the differential as well.

You have to realize that people do this with the quad versions of the big red:

As much as I love my three wheelers, I really ought to get a quad for mudding and underwater riding, always hate dropping into water and not knowing how steep or crooked in the drop/incline is...

But clear it out, and then swap the oil twice. It may have just been in the exhaust pipe that caused the smoke.

something about a drain plug for the brakes?

esp on the 85 sx which is about the same.

Why water gets in but not out, IDK

You are past this but if you DO flood the engine with water and try to start it,
the water in the cyl is like the piston coming up and hitting concrete.

Same thing can happen if someone leaves the gas on and it floods the cyl.

I've seen it before and wonder what really happens if you run a hot engine into cold water.

..actually, don't really wanna know

Add pontoons to it when you have dried it out. Fix it now and forever.

I just finished the second oil change! The oil is looking good with no signs of water after i ran it. I drained the carb bowl and I put iso heat in the tank. It's still smoking a little bit but I think it'll come out of it hopefully when I run it more
