With the other fellow asking about finding out if his bike is stolen I figured out I would share this tale about a stolen bike I unknowingly fixed for someone, in fact the person I fixed it for didn't even know it was stolen...
The brother of a friend of mine knew I was into the old 250r's, he knew I had a couple and have repaired them. A few years ago he came to me and told me that he just got a 83/84 250r It didn't run, and wanted to see if I could fix it, he got it from the kid down the street. I said, hey no prob, I'll fix it for you, just buy the parts, and pay for anything I can't do. Well looking it over it needed a piston, If I remember there was a hole burned into it or something like that. The cylinder was still good, and the head looked ok, he gave me the money, I got a new piston and some gaskets, and away he went, within a month or so.
Well a few weeks later a few kids came knocking at my door, one had their bike stolen and heared I had it, they were ready to take mine which clearly wasn't the one they lost.
I set them straight, and I let them know about the one I just had I fixed, and that the owner (as far as I knew at that point) took it back.
Well....
Turns out that the person that got the bike before my friends brother got it from someone who stole it, they then blew it up, and sold it.
The origional owner got it back, some sort of deal was made with my friends brother, as far as I know, he was not mad over what happened last I spoke to him.
All went well. Someone else I knew ended up buying the bike from the real owner so at least I knew it was well beat on by someone.
at least all ended well.
Just figured I would post this as a tale about a stolen bike, others please tell tour stories...
