I've always wanted to build a modern atc out of a newer utility quad, but I would try and make it a 3x3 with the gear out put for the front wheel drive(kind of like those rokon? 2 wheel drive bikes).

i read an article in a magazine a few years back, pop. mechanics i think, about a unit to add front drive to dirt bikes. it used a hydraulic pump driven by the final drive chain, and a hydraulic motor on the front wheel. sounded cool, i always thought would be cool on a three wheeler.... hmmm...

I abso freakin lutely second that thought.

after all, front wheel drive wins ice races.

spent about 2hrs. last nite looking for that article last night and no luck yet. found a rig for bikes that's a gear driven unit, looked complicated and expensive. the hydraulic unit was pretty simple, if not cheap. i'll keep looking and if i find it i will post something here.

It would be awesome to have a 3x3 atc, but is the hydraulic pump idea only possible with a chain drive unit or does it just need a rotating effect to pump it, also is it just a one way mechanism or 2 way(hence reverse?)

Sorry about borrowing your thread. lol
