i read a few posts today. 1 about putting lawn mower tires on a trike, another about what trike is best. it got me thinking. i have an 85 250es. not the sportiest or fastest by a long shot. i wanted to come up with some smaller tires that are thin, good for spining on dirt, great for trails and great climbers that make it look good. i also wanted to know how much better a 250r is than all other trikes and quads because obviously the trike owns everything!

A 250R "Owns Everything" as long as you are a Honda guy... But the two strokes (performance ones) 250R, Tecate & Tri-Z are an entire different animal from a Big Red... basically built for speed with few comforts, and unless you are fairly experienced not the best choice for a trail trike. I prefer Tecate's because of the lasting impression one left on me as a 13 year old kid. Probably the firt thing that ever scared me to death and taught me how to use my tail bone as a plow... That being said 250R's are great bikes, so are Big Reds and 110's, they all have a purpose (although the CPSC doesn’t quite agree) If you want to occasionally haul something or use it as a hunting vehicle, an R is really not the best choice, if you want the ability to cure an extreme case of constipation with the flick of the wrist, you may want to consider a Tecate… However if you want to hit the trails, do a little work and play around in the mud a bit, you probably want a 250SX or a Yamaha 225… Good trail/race combo would be either a 200X or a 350X. Any of the smaller trikes are fine too, but they usually lack rear suspension (not bad on sand or mild trails, but kind of a rough ride if there is any higher speed “air” or rough terrain involved)
Lawn Mower tires or flat track tires would not look very good on a Big Red, maybe even borderline silly, but that’s just my opinion… Basically if it has racks it needs really fat tires...

Not to mention that the Tires ARE a large amount of the "suspension" on the rear of the bigred/Utility trikes.
