Hey guys just bought a 1979 Honda 90 today from a guy for 50 bucks. It turns over but needs a couple things like a throttle cable and a seat (anyone have either for sale?)
Anyway, I was looking at worst case scenario for if all that is wrong is more than a carb cleaning such as a top end rebuild. And I have come across no parts for a top end rebuild for this thing. Anyone know where I can find a top end rebuild kit? Or if I can't does anyone have a known well running and good compression top end they would sell?

I posted it here because I can't find a top end rebuild kit anywhere for it. This shouldn't belong in the classifieds unless I was looking for a used top end. I want a new ring, and piston set.
Thanks.

Thanks mr.rpm. with that piston, do you have to bore the cylinder? And do you have a link to the piston and rings?

I am in the process of doing exactly what you're looking at doing... The kid burned down the top end of one of mine so I ordered the 104 piston from DRATV/Beatrice cycle and just picked up my cylinder from boring last week. Also ordered the performance camshaft, valve springs, a bigger carb, and gasket kit all for less or about the same as what the Powroll piston costs......

If you have it torn down that that far you might as well get the next size piston and have the cylinder bored. You are looking at on average an extra $50 for the boring at a machine/engine shop. The piston will normally cost the same whether it's standard or oversize. Nothing worse than going with the stock size piston and getting it all slapped back together and still getting blue smoke!

i got a new hi perf cam, high comp piston, hd valve springs, new valves with retainers, new rocker arms, new cam chain, new connecting rod and new crank barrings plus installation, new clutch plates pads and springs, new bigger carb, DG exhaust, UNI pod filter, cylinder bored, all gaskets and seals, new pull start cord, EDIT: Powroll intake manifold, ummm.... what else...other small stuff. (ill add as i remember) all for 600 bucks.
here is some pics of few of the parts

oh and to the other guy (forgot name) yes you will need to bore with almost any performance piston. i think stock bore on your 90 is 50mm, my 110 is 52mm stock bore. im now running a 56mm but i dont think that will work on the 90...

A 79 90? Honda stoped the 90s in 78 i thought and brought out the 110 in 79.

I just looked at the link to the Powroll 104 kit you posted....It was $235.00.... The same 104cc piston I got from DR Atv was 59.99 still on sale..Top end gasket kit was 11.99 that includes the head gasket that Powroll gives you in their $235.00 kit. Cam $32.95... Springs $7.99, etc...

I'm not knocking your stuff or the powroll stuff or what you paid for it....Just letting the original poster know there are other "cheaper" options out there.

Hell... You could have a brand new Lifan 140 or 150cc to bolt in for under $400.......Tell me again why we're puttin $$ into the original 90?

non of what i have is from the link i posted.
also all my OEMs were 50% off because of my fathers discount.
im pretty sure for what i did with 600 bucks would be hard to match other than an engine swap like you mentioned, but i like my engines built the way i want them and from Honda, not lifan

hi

I have a 90 that runs great but smokes and thought about simply re ringing it for under 20$.

Then I heard that they have valve seals, or a valve seal on the exhaust valve which is low and could be the whole problem.

That's as far as I made it.

a possible 3$ fix if it smokes.

Of course, there are tons of people on here who have actually DONE those motors who know waaaaay more than I do.

Are valve seals hard to do? I have a friend whos a small engine mechanic and can help me, but I don't want to bother him all the time to fix my stuff.

Valve seals are pretty straight forward removing the head I think....I'm sure there are tricks to remove the springs and do the seals without pulling the head though. I was able to change the valve springs on mine with no special tools with the head off. It did take an extra pair of hands to remove and reinstall the keepers though since I had to keep pressure on the springs and retainers using both of my hands.. +1 for the GF.
