Well, your choices for a race size tire are limited...almost non existant. The 1986 Z came with a K732 Dunlop which has been out of production for going on 10yrs now. Every once in a blue moon you can come across them, mostly guys clearing their garages and they have no idea what they go to(and there always used).
A guy on the boards just ordered the remander of the AMBUSH series tires from CST. This is a full on race tire in the exact size your looking for 23" in the correct width and rim size. Only problem is that last I heard is only 3 are left in the country(at the OTC Jamboree). Search this site for a post for MX tire for Tri-Z...I did see an ad on ebay through Cycles are Us but I'm not sure if it's still running.
Now there are some V style tires out there that are designed for 4x4 quads that some guys run...you just need to SEARCH a little deeper there are more than one post on this very topic.

I just got some 20x11x9 kenda knarley today from dennis kirk for my 86. A few weeks ago I got a kenda klaw in the stock front 23" size and its a nice looking tire that handles excellent.
