Hello everyone,

I just picked up an 83 250R, the kids have dirtbikes and I got sick of letting them have all the fun. I think it was a pretty good deal, I paid $300.00 for it. It starts on the first kick every time, but the brakes are shot.

My question is: Are there rebuild kits for the calipers and mater cylinders, or do I have to buy new? I ran a search on the web and could only find the pads, no calipers or cylinders. Can you all suggest a reputable place to purchace these things from?

the front fender is broken but I got another one with the sale.

Also is the prolink rear standard on these trikes, the guy who sold it to me said they were.

Thanks in advance for all your help

Rob

One other question. I looked at the specifications section on this site and it shows that 83 250Rs should have VINs that begin with JH3TB00606DC mine is JH3TB0607DC. is this of concern or is it OK.

Thanks
Rob

here is the rear view

man, that is a clean looking R. as far as brake parts go - try service honda or western honda online. lol

Nice ride for $300.I just restored my '84r,I rebuilt the caliper(2 seals & piston)with parts from local Honda dealer, and used a master cylinder-lever off a 400ex for the front brakes. The 400ex mast cyl is 1\4 the price of the 84' mast cylinder.

Looks good for $300, just got an 84 for $400. You may want t check the pressure in those rear tires. They look a little over inflated.

Thats a very clean 250r, I'd say you might have gotten the deal of year! Your best bet would be to purchase a Honda or Clymer repair manual from the Honda dealer or ebay. As far as I know all of the seals required to rebuild your calipers are availabe new from Honda. It's not too hard to change them even if you are not an expert mechanic.

Welcome to the forum, the pro-link suspension is standard on your bike.

Thanks everyone.

I am happy to hear bout the calipers and M/c seals. looks like that will save me some money.

I have been tooling around on it (without brakes! yikes!) and it is going to take some getting used to. that extra rear wheel is a trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro.

I'll post some pictures after I get it cleaned up and get the aluminum polished.

Jeb, I was recently up in Cresson, racing my R1 I'll e-mail next time I'm in the area.

Thanks again,
Rob

Welcome psycho :-P

A 400EX's master cylinder is the preferred choice, but I would think that just about any cylinder would work as long as it has the fluid capacity...

Good luck with it ;)

Service Honda has rebuild kits for both masters.

:D No....EVERY model ATV/ATC ever made had the shifter on the left side.

shifter is on the left.

I was riding around the neiborhood today (again with no brakes). My neighbor came out and mentioned that it was so loud.

My reply was "yup, thats the sound of your property value dropping."

I love this thing already!

talk to y'all later.

Are you saying instead of rebuilding my 350X cylinder I should ebay an EX cylinder for beefy braking and less rebuild hassle?

Must be quite a hassle to change the drive system from the right side to the left side eh :D

I would if the cyllinder was too far gone, or you didnt want to mess with rebuilding it....

I would say most cyllinders that would fit on your handlebars would work. I'm not sure if there are different sizes for the line hook-up...thats all that I could see holding you back
