well i ended up trading my banshee for this 86 X...not bad at all ...gas tank needs repainted and carb needs adjustment but otherthan that it runs great.
i totally rebuilt the carb with new jets (same size that came out) and everything..it idle fine originaly just wouldnt rev very well and took like 50 kicks to start...well it starts first kick now but the idle wont respond to adjustment of the screw..(yes the slide is in properly) and i sprayed carb cleaner around the intake and didnt find any leaks....anyideas?

if your turning the right screw and nothing is happening your throttle valve is 180 deg. out.

Yeah, get us some bigger pics
As for idle adjustment, if it idles fine, then don't touch it.

Try 2.5 turns out on the pilot screw. If that does nothing, then take the slide out of the carb, and re-clean it, making sure it drops all the way.

pull your slide back out and put it back in with the angle cut at the bottom towards the idle screw

the slide has the small groove toward the screw...long groove is on the pin in opposite side..

Clean the jets, esp. the pilot jet. REMOVE all jets , use 2 cans of carb cleaner on the jets and thru the passages.
Also, the screw goes screw/spring/washer/oring and many times the screw tip is ruined or washer missing.
Air filter on and clean? airbox lid on?

and no airbox lid..running a K&N with an outerwear, also has a white bros exhaust on it...now for another question...it runs great now starts first kick...but it smokes a tad at higher rpms...should i run a new oem piston? get a wiseco? any thing else to look for as far as problems on these bikes? never had a 2nd gen X before.
it does have new bearings all around , new chain and sprockets, forks have been rebuiklt
