I recently sold my 1984 ATC 250r and bought a dirt bike and a ofur wheeler so that i could race. Truthfully i miss riding on 3 wheels, there fore i would like to purchase a new one. the trikes that ive been looking at are the 1985/1986 honda 250r, the 1986 tri-z or the 1986 tecate. i have a major need for speed and love an adrenaline rush. Ive been leaning towards the tri-z cause it is kind of the mediocre trike and there is many ppl in my area with one. tell me your expieriances with trikes so that i can choos the right trike for me :-P thanx :-D

ive got an 85 and its fun, the tank under the seat is different though, wheelie beast! i took mine off though cuz i just didnt like it and all the stuff for it weighed alot. but i really like mine because everybody always asks what it is and all the banshee bitches get mad because an old dinosaur beat their 8000 bike

IM not really all for the teacate but then again i never rode the 86 . the 85 isnt really that great. i am a major honda fan and know for a fact that there reliable and fast as hell. the tri-z is never talked about around here but idk if i want step into something that i dont know much about. how is the powerband on the tri-z?

I've never ridden an R but after riding Mik6's 86 T3 and holic's 85 at trikefest I realized how different they are then my Z. The tecate is a top end screamer where my Z is a mid range bike. Not sure if all Z's are like that but mine with a dg pipe and boyesen reeds has a nice mid range punch but didn't rev to the moon like the tecates. You really can't go wrong with any of the 3, i'd say go for the one you can buy that's in the best condition for the money and what you'll be able to find parts for easier.

if you only care about a top speed motor pick the Tecate.
if you want to be differant then the norm buy a TRI-Z
if you want the winningest, most versital, top of the line, one that has the most aftermarket parts avalible, the most OEM parts avalible, the most reliable, the one that fathered and shares a lot of parts with the greatest golfcart ever made to this day, get the one and only mighty KING the 86 ATC 250R.

How is the powerband on a tri-z.... will it throw you for a whirl like the honda? :)

Now I've gotten flack for this before and I'll probably get some again, but when my Z ran, It kicked my TRX's ASS in the acceleration and all around fun department. My Z had a pretty hard kick in the powerband, not nearly as much as my 84 KXT (Which is nuts). The Z seemed right on par with my stock TRX250R in the "powerband kick" department. The Z is definetly a wheelie machine, I pulled several 5th gear wheelies when mine was running (Without shifting through the gears either).

Billy, i don't disagee that your TRI-Z is on par with a TRX 250R, but remember the TRX is slower then the ATC  :D ;) imagine if you had that motor in a lighter chassie. would it still be "par" :D

I'm not arguing it wouldn't...but I mean I haven't had alot of seat time on an ATC250R. I do really like the Z though and think it would be an excellent choice. Hell all of them are good choices.

I have an 85 tecate and its nothing but troubles. First the stator went so i bought a PVL racing ignition thinking it will beat my R. Maybe mine was the only 85 tecate that was crap but compared to my 85 atc 250r it was a joke. The R will run circles around the tecate any day. I never rode a tri-z but by looking things up I would look for an 86 because it had a six speed tranny and better suspension,i'm not saying the 85 wasnt good but i would go for the 86. If you cant make up your mind, go for the 250r. What can i say, its the greatest trike ever made!!!

I have to agree on the 350x. Easy to ride, bullet proof, and will haul pretty fast. Much less tempermental than the 2 strokes.
