i have an '86 350X and i have a chrome DG exhaust. i like it and it sounds good but i am wondering if there r any true performance exhaust set ups out there?? like from a different company. seems i only ever see DG and from what i have always read and heard they really aren't much more then a stock replacement with more flow and a lot louder. which i know probably gives it a little more power. let me know. thanks.

Many people use the Honda trx450R exhaust can and oem header. It works very well. We did this years ago on a buddies 350x after seeing a thread on this swap probably 4 years ago. It flows as well as any LOUD can will since it comes off a high performance machine stock. They are stainless construction and keep the machine quiet with absolutely no loss in power. There are many 350's out there with this exhaust, so pics should not be a problem. The work needed to make it a great fit is not as much as you would think. They look great when mounted, and new take offs can be had on ebay for very little money too.....

I am interested in this swap as well, hope someone can post pics. My DG is loud as it is. And I think I have a stock one or two laying around.

^ You should have asked me, I have the whole swap.
The KEY is the HRC tip, it has a mouth almost 2.5-3"s and replaces the tiny little stinger on the stock 450R silencer. I took my AB lid off and gained a couple main jet sizes.
Then I got sick of it adding weight and nabbed a SuperTrapp exhaust which allowed for mor jetting changes and the needle raised up a clip.
Very inexpensive improvement; Lots of threads on what has to be done.
I added a mount, it's heavy and in time will crack something, somewhere. I also chopped the stock mount off (ST doesn't use that anyhow) and made a mmidpipe with my old silencer and a piece from the 450R one. It had a clamp at the silencer w/ 2 bolts and a duplicate where it meets the header...........

You have to use the trx450ex pipe and silencer not the 450r. The trx450r has a single head pipe but not the 450ex. They made both models during the same years at least some of the years coencide like 2007 i know. I saw one of each the other day.

I say the same stupid crap, Every time I order parts I just say "the friggen 450 4 stroke race quad!!"
CR, CRF, KX,KFX250R, KX250F - I mean, cmon, just label the friggen things like "200X" All these models and they can't sell them anyway.
Most likely he is referring to the wrong part because you want the silencer and not the headpipe.
Just get the silencer off the TRX450 race quad..... Stupid prefixes and suffixes............
No wonder we can't find the crap on EBAY

there is a 450EX I know there is a 2006 and also a 2007 I saw them with my own eyes. Then right beside it there was a 2007 450r. I saw all three at my local Honda delearship for sale as used bikes. I was looking because i wanted to see what the head pipes looked like. The 450ex has a dual head pipe and the 450r is a single large head pipe. Believe me, I was shocked too that they made those bikes the same year. I asked the owner THREE times about it and he confirmed that both models were made simoultaneously and that the 450r was the much faster bike. He has had the Honda dealership for at least 30 years too. I SAW THE MODEL TAGS ON THE THE FRONT OF THE FRAMES WITH MY OWN EYES. TRX450EX & TRX450ER which is the 450R.

I personally like superTrapp :)

You can always go with a hand built custom pipe like I make.

There is 13 peices in that tail section and that is 2'' pipe. When building hybrids you always have to build your own pipe or get someone to built it for you. I always built my own and many for other guys as well.

I was always partial to my Bassani. Larger headpipe and flow

In 2007 Honda made these sport quads
450R
450ER (an electric start version of the R)
400ex
300ex
If it had dual headpipe setup it was a 400ex, a single then it was the 450R. Nothing really to dispute
