Should I buy a 500cc three wheeler? [Archive]

I talked to the guy. he had a broken 200x (bad motor) that he took the swingarm off of. he welded the back section of the 200x frame that supports the swingarm to the rear of the 500cc dirtbike. He cut the rear section off of the bike and welded the 200x stuff in place of it.

He said that the front end was a direct bolt on, he didn't have to change anything, it just bolted in place of the factory dirt bike front end.

that thing would lose to a built 250r and it looks like crap for 500 tou can get a frame fabricated to hold a cr500 motor that trike was built half ass and the tank and seat look tacky.

LOL, I still rock my 185 daily, Long live the fun rides!! Hell my biggest trike is only a 200. I have 2 new 700s in shop and my fav machine the the slowest one. However, MY balls are still huge.

what does that trike have to do with having balls? big deal if that heavy points ignition boat anchor motor has big torque... the chassis is a still a piece of junk that will drag the footpegs on the ground all day long... its your money do what ya want

the 250r comparison was only mention cuz the seller of that abortion claimed it to be the "fastest around".. which clearly its not.. I own a 200s.. it gets ridden alot.. more so than anything else i have... its very fun... but that doesnt mean i would drop $500 on a cobbled mess when $700 or 800 can buy a decent play bike...

The guys asking $500 i'd offer him like $300 if you wanted it. For me i'd have no use for it cleary not a trail bike maybe fun for drag races at the county fair. Might be enought 200x parts left on it to part it out surely some guys out there is wanting that motor for something.

The problem with that is that the only 200x parts remaining are the front end and the swingarm/axle. The chassis and engine are all dirtbike which makes it not that appealing to me.

wow you guys should do a search on mymint87's mutt!!! its a converted 500 motorcycle,, its a friggen blast to ride in the dunes and its plenty fast,,,, yeah its a little heavy but the monster torque makes it a pleasure to ride... and that tt500 could easily be made to whoop-ass a 250r ...

I dont think minty87's xr500 has anywhere near the goofy geometry.. and not everyone is lucky enough to primarily ride sand with their bikes... that tt trike would be a mess on a real trail... sure it could be built to run fairly well... but so could a real trike with trike like geometry.. not everyone on here has the skills or tools to fix the quirks on a bike like that.. and those that do have probably already built their own..

I cannot believe i read all that! it has three wheels. it is cool. the geometry is wrong for turning well or a track, trails, sand. its a cruzer. it cost 500 bucks (a song). i would not buy it for myself. but if my buddy did, i would congratulate him and take it for a spin! it reminds me of another trike that was built by mwke. and finished by Nos350x. not made for racing against Rs. just a novelty item. some of you are just being mean for the sake of being mean..or heard! wow!

between the pictures and videos there was plenty of it to be seen... it would only get worse with a better pic... its funny how you defend that junk til the end, but never have I seen a post anywhere with anything even close to junk being in your own garage. that bike has issues that paint and chrome wont fix.. but i do kinda see your point.. riding a slow, heavy, poor handling, frame dragging ugly trike would be better than no trike at all...

Do not buy it. First of all its raked and poorly built. Second, say goodbye to your foot when kicking it, if not timed correctly, it will break your foot. Third, its an oilframe(if you wreck, you gotta start over on a frame). The carbs are horrible on those.
I just built an XT/TT Flattracker and it whooped my 250R, straight up. It was a stock motor with a Mikuni 38mm without an accelerator pump. It had a tuned header. My 250R has a tuned pipe and that's it.
It's fast, but the oilframe is a hindrance and is pushing it by the pull of the heavy engine and the rake.
I would've kept it as a TT and bored it to 535. The only downside of those TT/XT's were they were heavy, like 10 refrigerators.

im so confused.... some of you are with the trike, because all trikes should be fun to ride... some are against the trike because it isnt fast enough. i am with the trike because of what some people have said... TRIKING SHOULD BE FUN!!! yes, fast can be fun stability can be fun.. but so can slow and unstable.... its all peoples own opinion. now its ok to shoot someone down if they are posting a thread saying "this homemade trike is definately faster than a 250r" than i would agree ITS NOT AS FAST AS A 250R i guess what im tryin to say is, critisize and argue all you want JUST DONT BE A DICK ABOUT IT

Ive spent way more on way less,....I personally could have fun on just about ANYTHING that has a motor. Would I buy it and use it as my primary ride? Prob not, but for a measily 5 bones im sure I could get my moneys worth outta it screwing around wherever it wasnt a rock-fest.

If the guy was asking a cpl grand for it I could see the bashing, but for 500 bucks WTF do you really expect ??????

well i am all for fun too... but it doesnt take 500cc of outdated fourstroke to have fun or "cruise".. thats my point.. why not spend a lil bit more and have a well rounded machine? $500 may sound cheap.. but how much money will it take to fix someone elses headache? Guess that all depends on your mechanical abilities and what you expect out of a machine... i think a tt 500 could make a decent powerplant for a trike...just not that trike..

A TT550 would be a bit more well rounded. E-start, more power than you can handle, and integrated comp. release. Just take some degrees out of the rake, then it would be lighter and easier to ride.
I would buy it and put the TT engine in a TT/XT, then get an SR500 engine and bolt it in if you do not want to fiddle with mounts. The SR has bigger valves and makes about 5 more HP. De-rake the frame to an XT rake, then run it. Also put a remote oil tank in and armor the engine and braided cloth lines on the bottom.

poor suspension and having the pegs bash on the ground comin out of a wheelie are two different things... it might work on a dragster or a flat tracker... but that thing is neither of those..

i like to see all the reasons that its such a bad trike!!! i think you would have to aquire new riding skills to ride it,,,,, so its heavy and a little short on suspension,,, DEAL learn to ride it,,, 30 years ago we didn't even have suspension ,,,

yeah, and if the suspension is really TOO soft, and cant support the weight, either stiffen the f@#$ out of them, put heavier shocks on it (350x) or put straight forks on it, and go back to the good ol' days!! and besides, that doesnt sit much if any lower than a stock 200x... that engine only adds 20-30 pounds, and everything else looks like a 200x except no plastics, and the seat and tank are different, pretty much just an ugly 200x with more power

This thing may not look the greatest but what the hell if ya got $500 (and no tryke) and you are a bigger guy you want the torque! If you weight a Buck25 maybe not a such good idea. Sure its a turd, not your best tryke that may be a Tecate 250r 350x 450 whatever. Its a 2nd 3rd tryke. Wear a helmet with dark visor no one will know who ya are!! I remember riding many trykes with no suspension, just like Kasey said, and at least this thing has some!! Ride it, Learn to ride it faster, spend $100 and make it look better and in a year sell it and make some $$ on the sale!! What the hell ya had fun. If I fit the categories of money I had to spend, A bigger Dude, nothin close better for sale, I'd inspect it for strength, make sure it runs, sounds good, idles, charges-runs lights, shifts, holds gears and doesnt do anything too funky.......... buy it and run the Hell out of it. If its a turd warn everybody else and run away. Anybody can take a Tecate 250r 350x 450 tryke and go fast - NOT everybody can ride this beast fast. Some of the best riders to advance on to faster classes started with things like this and showed up many other riders. I've seen that! Hell just putt around if ya want!!!
I'm gonna post pics of my 500 Frank N Tryke (Trademarked and Patented) soon and it may not look the greatest but I'll ride with anybody..... at any speed..... on the Biggest Glamis Dunes........ anyday.........

The thing just looks wrong/bad! The motor is a torque monster for sure though, I've got a '78 XT500 that's hard to keep the front end down. I can't imagine it in that cobbled frame, better set some money aside for the trip to the hospital if you plan on any real riding with that thing. I'd steer clear, or buy it to resell the engine, that's got to be worth the $500
