Not always. The last time I rode my friends trx 125 the side shifter he had bolted on came in handy. Of course it could of been because we were riding 2 person on this little bike :? (we are both 6' tall).

Dennis Kirk sells them...they bolt onto the lever...

A waste if you ask me..

I agree that it is a waste. When you are doing normal riding they get in the way.

Looking at the rust around where it is connected it looks to have been welded on.

Whoever owns it is probably missing his legs from the knees down, therefor this way is tons easier. hehe

The quad looks like it is in nice shape too, except for the shifter.

A good friend of mine who came back from alittle trip with Uncle Sam with both legs gone from the knees down had a hand shifter on his TRX. I still have the TRX, the shifter is hanging on the wall it is easier if you have your feet to use the foot lever. I will also always have his memories. Well that is what your post reminded me of last night. Today my head hurts. :Beerchug

also that shifter is about midway on the shifter, if it was right on the pivit point it would be alot easier. the ones i always see bolt right on to the shift shaft to allow the easiest shifting

I once bought a 200x from a guy with this type shifter, and the man was born with no left leg, and a deformed left arm. As part of the deal I removed the custom shifter and gave back to him so he could use it on another machine. There's nothing wrong with wondering why someone would do certain modifications, but Id caution against jumping to the conclusion that the answer is always stupidity.

I have a friend who thanks to a tumor (Now removed) on her spine has minimal leg strength and can't shift without a hand shifter.

A friend of mine has a moose hand shifter. He has his legs and feet, but he has a thing with his spine so he dosent walk right, and has to use those crutches that go around your hand. He is a damn good rider too.
