Doesn't seem to go into 4th gear, goes to neutral. I am positive I'm counting the gears correctly. Acts like it kinda wants to go into 4th but it doesn't. Neutral. Anyone else ever encounter this? I was looking at the manual, could it be something with the shift linkage or shift drum? Thanks, Matt.

I'll keep ya in mind, but I'm hoping it's something I can fix semi easily. Gonna have to take off the left case cover and take a look at the shift linkage and drum I guess.

Hey will_15942, how much you think it's goin to cost to ship a lower end to Okauckee, WI zip 53069? Did the bottom end you have work well? I'm hoping I can just just bolt on my upper and run it. Really need this thing for ice fishin. My Big Red 250 es is a '85 if that makes a difference. Thanks, Matt.

I would be all over that, but money is pretty friggin tight right now. When I have an extra hundred bucks I'll be callin to see if ya still got it. How did you remove the driveshaft? Like the manual says? I read if you removed the bolts and stuff it's a pain in the aise to put it back together. Split the cases and all. Thanks, Matt.

Take off the left cover, inspect all the pins, springs etc etc. The 250SX has a flaw in this area. Why 4th?? I don't know but I count "SL" as 1st so there ought to be 5 gears.
You may find something loose or snapped especially if it just happened. The tranny is pretty tough until humans touch it :D

Last week I took off the levt cover. Pulled the shifter shaft out and the drum and pawls and springs and stuff oh my. Everything was good. Manually shifted the drum through the gears, it would jam stop in neutral metween 3rd and 4th. Wouldn't go any farther and I didn't want to f anything more up by forcing it. A shift fork has to be bent or something. It still works, but no 4th.
Hey will, I talked to my buddy, he'll have some cash for me next weekend. So if ya can hold on to that bottom end for me, I'll get your info next weekend and I'll send ya a money order.
It'd be keen to have 4th gear for the ice

I'd be interested in the aluminum finish bottom end. Whan you removed the engine, how did you unhook the driveshaft. Did you pull the boot back and slide it out, or remove the cap with bolts on the engine. Thanks.
