Hey, I bought my first 250r aout half a year ago. It ran good I thought, but when my friend and I road my old 200s next to it, they where about the same!!

And I checked my speed at 45 mph tops on the 250r, it was also very sluggish on top end. I rebuilt the carb, and fixed the sluggishness on top end.

Now that I have it running like a screamer, what could be making it so slow? I run stock gears, at 13/42, stock pretty much everything else.

I think it needs a rebuild, but I dont want to have it not be the problem. I am planning on just getting this one to run -stock- or about new like. Then I will look into buying a 250r, 86.

This atc is also hard to kick start now. It used to start on the first kick all the time, but its getting harder to start, and feels like its getting easer to kickstart, and less compression.

So what do you think could be wrong, do I need a rebuild or what?
Thanks!

Sounds like a top end job is overdue, but Im afraid this will have no effect on your top speed. If you are hitting high gear, and getting the RPMs up there to where they should be, the only factor on top speed is gearing. Aside from the obvious, sprockets, the shorter the tire, the lower the gearing as well. Rebuilding the top end will not affect top speed, only how quick you reach it.

sounds like in addition to a fresh top end you need a new clutch it is probably slipping at higher RPM's

It could be jetting! Running it to fat.
