I'm in the process of changing the oil on my '86 Big Red and I can't find my oil filter. Where is it and how do i get to it? I'm running out of light, so someone please let me know as soon as possible.

Don't own a trike without the manual!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a filter cover on the right side, 2 screws, behind that is 3 bolts and then the oil filter and spring come out. All on the rt. side; put it in backwards and wave goodbye to the cam. Make sure it gets in right.

It takes sense or or labeled filter to get it done....

Thank you for your help Dirtcrasher. I own several trikes but they are all 200's with the simple "screen" filter; this is my first 250 and I havent had it long. Believe me, a manual is coming for sure in the near future. What are you speaking of that can't go in backwards, the filter itself?

Yup, or the oil won't hit the top end.

Ask MonroeMike for a downloadable manual and you'll be all set. He'll find the thread....

The backwards filter is a common mistake and ruins the topend..........

If you get an oem oil filter from the stealer it will say THIS SIDE OUT so you don't mess it up. A friend of mine put his in backwards on his 300ex and cooked it in no time.

It is an OEM filter and now I can see where it is stamped "this side out", so that will ease my mind a lot. There are even directions in the bag in English lol. I guess I should have opened it first........

from outside to in.

cover
check BOTH orings

rubber grommet side of filter faces out to force oil to the head and rockers

silly spring

push in hand pressure and then bolt like a head gasket a little at a time, unless I also got it wrong
