Well, I just broke another rope in the recoil of my 185s and I was wondering if putting wire in it instead of rope would be a good idea?

the wire needs to have a plastic or rubber coating to prevent rust

i have heard only good things about those and even bought one myself. haven't used it yet though

I've heard that actual pull rope for a lawnmower will last at LEAST 5 or 10 pulls

Go with the cable from Dennis Kirk, I've had one for years, they work great.

How often are these breaking for all of you guys? I had a roll of rope for any use, snowblower/mowers/etc. I haven't had it break in any of my recoils, even without the compression release (Engines never started for me with that, so I disconnected them all.)

if you dont wind up enough rope you can break some pretty stout rope.the key is to wind up more than youll use with every pull

my 110 has the original rope and has only broken once but we just put it back on with it 2 inches shorter. just now after 26 years of being in water and mud and aged its starting to rot. original ropes work great i just went with cable for no reason other than hoping to keep my 110 for decades to come

The one on my 183s broke the first pull after I got it (actually the whole mechanism jammed - but the bike was sitting for years at that point) When I rebuilt it I went with the cable cause I remember my friend had a 125m that had a recoil on it and that rope seemed to break every few months. I did that roughly 8 years ago, and it now looks like the handle is going to dry rot through before the cable goes. I just replaced the cable on my Honda lawnmower after 6 years of having it, plus ?? years of my father having it. But like I've said I know of people who go through a rope every few months.
