Just received my freshly plated cylinder yesterday. Threw some paint on it and bolting it on tonight, so it'll be ready for Sandpuppys ride next weekend. The original nicom was from 85 and finally gave out. As i do to all of my Tecate cylinders, i have them opened up to 71mm, to keep a common bore size among my cylinders. Leaving them at 256cc final. Stock port with minor intake cleanup to remove the irregularities that these cylinders are famous for...Head was trimmed to keep compression in check too, otherwise it gits high FAST!:naughty:

Thanks for posting that Tecat-z, I was asking about that stuff and you showed me first hand so thanks. I think I'll take the head off and start looking at the seized up motor tomarrow. Now I know what I'm lookin' at.

Honistly Doug, it's unnecessary to git it "hogged out" Obviously there's power to be had by going bigger, but only if it's been done correctly. Everything has to be brought back into dimension when bore is drasticly increased. And radical port jobs can really hurt the rideability and fun factor when just out riding. A correctly tuned Tecate engine makes plenty of power with very minor cleanup and a good cylinder finish. I've beat many BIG full port Tecate, 250R and Tri-z engines with my "little engines" And yes, Nicom is the same as nicasil. "aka" not an iron cylinder liner....

I agree.....my big bore "iron liner" cylinder is coming off, and the little buzz saw "Nicom" cylinder is going back on! I have personally seen the devistation of what a well tuned little Tecate motor can do!

Wow, thanks for speaking up on this thread. My 85' is getting rebuilt. I didn't need to sleeve or bore, the cylinder was clean. The mechanic looked at me funny when I mentioned a bigbore kit if it needs re-chromed, he said build the motor right and looked up and down at me and said why would I need it? I'm a 125# and that trike with new guts will fly with me. Keeping everything close to stock (already has open filter and DG exhaust), even a new stock carb. He even said to spend mass time jetting. His idea was a well tuned, not souped, motor. Dude at the old school shop must know his Kawasaki's because all of you are speaking the same. I wanted reliability on the rebuild, not a racer, he said it'll be cleaner runnin' closer to stock and will add more speed, I said "huh?". How does our stock Tecate's do against a 300 or so kit in a 'Z' or 'R'? Are they that performance orientated in stock form? I really am in love with this Kawasaki Tecate.
