I built this bike 7 years ago and have put more miles on it than I can even imagine. I decided since I am taking it to Rogers ride - I better give her a quick makeover. All new bearings seals on both axles and tapered bearings for the steering. All new cables for EVERYTHING - speedo kit - new exhaust (this machine has never had a stock exhaust on it - always cobbled together parts. Repainted frame and everything - new brakes - Maier fairing. Took me about 1.5 weeks - everyday working on it. I think it came out good and was well worth it. I just hope I remembered to tighten everything up on it for this big ride!

Also - about a year ago I camo'ed it and put 12" wheels on it.

With those tires/rims and colors, it looks WAY newer than an 80's trike. Looks like something new almost.

The cam is Moose "Real Timber" ATV camo tape. Comes in (4) 4" wide by 60" long rolls. Pretty easy to work with really. I have done a quad in this for the father in law as well. The heat shield is regular paint - the head pipe is high temp paint. The heat guards hold up just fine with regular paint. I've done many in the past this way without any problems.

So the axle was straight, I hope?

atctim
07-26-2010, 09:28 AM
I hope so Matt- I think when I bent my axle It bent my swing arm axle tube as well. I did get it in there with new bearings - so all should be good - carb goes on tonight for a test ride - then I will know!

I'm curious what that front wheel/tire is off of? I guess the rear set are just off of a newer quad?

Danold
07-29-2010, 08:14 AM
That looks awesome! I have 12in rims on the rear and I think it goes alot better than my old BR, its just a little more unstable on the trail.

I want a front tire setup like that. What size is the rim/tire and bolt pattern?

atctim

The front wheel is the same as the rears - ITP 12" Steel Wheels.

Is your front tire on backwards?
Where did you get the stock one? Is it Rick's?

Love the frame color - good choice.

No he doesn't ..... they push rather than steer in any more than a couple inches of snow.

Edit: Now I see your location, I'm guessing that is not an issue.

The front tire is mounted backwards per Louis Mielke - these were his tires / wheels. It really needs a new front tire - as this one is pretty worn out.

Stock one? Not sure what you are referring to??? Tire, wheel, front end???????

I like Big Camo - sounds cool. Here is what I am thinking for a front tire - good for all terrains (thus ATC)

Oh - that is Gene Martin's. He said it can live with me now - so that is two super sweet Big Red's that are now in my possession thanks to him. He never uses them anymore since he got "Big Orange" (Kubota RTV).

Ahhh I see throw me under the bus, er big red, why doncha! When I got that tire I didn't know which way that rim was gonna mount, so I ended up mounting it the wrong direction. Never got around to getting is changed back before I sold the big red and the tires.
