Can a stock 250r spring fit on a ELKA?

Hey guys,

I snapped my spring as many of you know,

The shaft, threads and the bump stops are fine.

The spring is fubared....... can a stock R spring work on there? can someone measure a uncompressed one for me???

what is the spring rate and length of your spring? i have a couple Hyperco Springs that are one of the top spring manufactures. i have a supplier for them also. get me some info and i will see what i can do. if you have a longer swingarm than stock then the stock spring rate of the stock spring will not work out very well.

most of the time on aftermarket springs they stamp it or engrave it on the bottom. sometimes it is hard to see and sometimes is wore off. there is a formula to figure it out but it is a tuff formula. there is another formula to figure out what you need to make it work right but it is also a tuff formula. i would have to find them.

Hey josh most all Elka's have a number stamped In the upper shock body. That number can be checked through Elka to find out what It had put on & In It when It was built. That might or might not help ya as someone could have changed everything since It's a pretty old shock.

There's a way of calculating the rate of spring you have by measuring the wire diameter, the average coil diameter and the number of coils.

The wire diameter needs to be very accurate to the nearest thou if you can (scrape off the paint as well). The average coil diameter is less sensitive, but still important. Number of coils has a linear effect on the rate. Try it - link to a page with the calculator is below.

the closest spring i have is 7 inches. it is a 375 # spring. if i were you i would have elka rebuild it to your specs.
