500x spittin and sputtering! PLEASE HELP!

Hey everyone i just bought a gnarly 350x with a xr500 motor. The bike worked good until i noticed after i bought it that it was missing an air box, just runnin straight off the carb. What the problem is, is that i put a 110 atc air box jimmy rigged with plumping tubes. Honestly it was quite the clean installation. The bike doesnt get the air needed! What do you guys think? Oh and no Local shops are brave enough to touch the bike to jet it. do you think if i got a 350x air filter and mounted it straight to the carb, would fix the problem? I need ideas!

I'd forget the air box and just put a clamp-on filter on there... a few of mine run fine that way.

Pics man I wanna see another 500X and the mods done to it... I have a 350x air box on mine but had to retube it from the carb to the box...just short a bit

Hey guys pics soon! I fixed most of the sputtering by atc350xer's suggestion. I just need to find a bigger air filter skeleton, im thinkin from a 400ex. Oh im in New brunswick, saint john.
