Selling 1982 250r This weekend and im gonna get a Banshee, Yamaha Raptor, or YFZ450 next. There is a slim chance all get a 1985-86 250r. Out of these choices what do you guys think.

I love 2 strokes but if you ask me a banschee is a dune machine . I would have to say the new yz450 f . It gets great reviews , but as allways I say ride one first .

Does anyone know the horsepower of the Banshee, Yamaha Raptor, YFZ450, and the 1985-86 250r.

If it was my choice I believe I would go with the YZF450 over the banshee or the Raptor, or I would wait for the 450 honda that honda is coming out with. Read all the atv magazines, and you will see that YFZ450 is definitely the top choice, that is until the 450 honda comes out. If you put a GYT-R full exhaust system, new jets, and remove the airbox cover it will make the Yamaha scream. I still would wait to see what the Honda 450 is going to do.( But I am a honda fanatic)

i think you should buy the trx 450R. then bring it to me and i will remove that ugly front end and replace it with a set of upside down forks and 1 wheel    . then you'll have a 2004 ATC 450R  :D :-D

Sounds like a pretty neat project idea. Mr ATC how do you think it would handle?

Hey, if anything wait for the new 450F From Honda. I bought a Raptor and love it, its a great machine and I wouldn't trade if for anything else. but if I knew that Honda was coming out with a 450R then I probably would of waited until it came out. But if it fails, go with the Raptor.

I would wait for the TRX450R. But if you like Yamadog, get the 450, that thing kicks!!

I would also wait until the TRX comes out. But if you can't...definately go with the YFZ. It dynoed 36.1HP with an FMF exhaust Manny. I cant wait until the TRX is released :-P

Where does everybody get these incorrect HP figures for the Yamaha 450?? I have seen 45 HP on the cover of two different issues of DirtWheels magazine.

DW mag says that the Z440 (yes 440) has 38.5HP vs. 36.5HP for the YFZ with just a FMF pipe vs. 44.6HP for the Predator 500 with a pipe.

This was done on the FMF dyno...Im sure that Yamaha's dyno is tuned to "lie" a little, which is where the 45HP came from.

I never believe dynos. They rangefrom one to another. It depends on who is doing the dyno. Also dynos include tuning and adjusting. it comes down to who can tune the best to get the most HP. just like aftermarket performance companies for anything. EXAMPLE- Power Stroke diesel. Banks will claim a certain kit will add a certain amount of Hp. but they spent hours tuning them to get the best numbers, so just bolting stuff on never will match a dyno from a manufactor.

GET THE TRX450R. I would trade the 400ex and take the cash of your 82 250r for the 450R, it is faster and will handle better than both and then you would have one awsome quad. It is just what I would do.

the reason you have these dramatic differances in DYNO results is because the manufactures give you the H.P. at the crank. most aftermarket companies use DYNO's that measure H.P. at the rear wheels.
a dyno reading from the crank will be higher then at the wheel. h.p. is lost through the various means it goes through (tranny, chain, ect.) before it gets to the rear wheels.

so if yamaha tells you it has 45 h.p. at the crank and fmf tells you 38 at the rear wheels it is still accurate.
