Ok, Ok I know I have it coming. Searched the net for a close match to Honda Red and came up with Krylon Fusion Red Pepper. Painted the forks on my BR; looks not too bad and the colour is really close! Here comes the great:crazy: idea. I'll touch up my gas tank. Also looked good until gas hit it:cry: What do you guys do to spruce up your metal tanks, send them to a body shop or spray at home?

i need to paint the tank on my 200x but i ran into the same problem there is a special paint out there somewhere resistant to gas its either find the special paint or buy a plastic tank i think plastic tank would be better then just pick up a set of tank decals from ebay and your set to go

on plastic tanks the decals bubble because gas vapor is actually being released threw the plastic. if you line your plastic tank with a gas tank liner it will stop that and decals will stick.

PJ1 makes a great epoxy based spray paint in OEM Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Kawasaki. I have used the Honda Red, and the Suzuki Yellow. With proper prep they came out looking great and the gas did not even faze it. I could have soaked my gas tank in a 5 gallon bucket of gas and it would have been fine. 3 Days to cure and you are ready to go.
It will NOT work on plastic tanks. It will still bubble. PM me if you have any other questions. I have used PJ1 several times and it never disappoints.

Does your gas tank have any filler in it ? I am about to powder coat my atc 70 tank and give it a try this week. I don't have any red yet only black, so thats what I was going to paint my tank with. I've seen one other powder coated tank and it looked good.

I would sand the tank all down to the bare metal, prime it, paint it in the color you want, then put on a clear coat of protector to seal the deal.

I've obviously heard of powdercoating but I'm not sure of the mechanics of it? Simple to do at home?

PJ1, Spray paint in a can?
Yes, you can get it at most bike shops. If they don't have it I am sure that they can order it for you.
Go here to locate a dealer near you.(They need to send me a commission check!!)
