Years ago I had an 85 250R that had Dextron AutoTrans fluid in the bottom end. I now have an 86 that has 30 wgt. I ask the local Honda shop and they suggested 30 wgt as well. I have read post of others using Auto fluid in their Rs.

What was in them from the factory and what do you guys thinks accually works the best? Should I stay with 30 or flush and go to Dextron?

My Honda Service manual says to use Honda 4-Stroke oil or equivalent (of course) and then goes on to show a chart with other acceptable equivalants and are as follows....
SAE 10W-40 covers the widest temp range... 15 Deg to 100+ Deg farenhiet. 20w-40 and 20w-50 is good from 35 Deg to 100+ Deg Farenheit, 10W-30 is only good from about 15 Deg to 85 Deg Farenheit while SAE 5W is only good for cold weather and covers a range of 15 below zero to 50 Deg farenheit.....this is word for word out of my Honda service manual...

i run 10W-40 Valvoline ATV oil because it claims to be safe for use with wet clutch systems. I have heard, that not all common motor oils are acceptable to use in wet clutch systems, so i use Valvolin ATV oil to be safe.....

I run ATF type F. It gives the clutch a nice positive feel. Need to change it often though.
