Ok so have this 82 110 it runs but it seems to be stuck in high.

Flip the lever to low?

Ok, I walked into that.
The switch does go back and forth from high to low. I haven't ever owned a three wheeler til now.

Yeah, if it doesn't engage, then roll backwards a bit and it'll go right in.

or, sitting at idle, put it in gear then try to change from hi to lo

I will give both of those a try.
Now just for S&G's - how hard is it tear down and replace parts and so on? The reason I ask is my neighbor said remove this and that and do this and that. pulling a pin or something. It is so sad, being this new really. I tell ya. I can work on muscle cars and trucks but bikes i get lost.

its really simple. just pull the 4 bolts holding the cover on. the entire thing is very straight forward. either it has missing or broken peices, or its just assembled wrong. if its the latter, its problay the shaft that the shifter fork slides along. theres two grooves in it, which a spring loaded ball pops into when you shift positions. i would slide the bar out of the fork thing, then put it back in the other way.

I don't know if this helps, but with mine, I didn't know at first that you have to lift the lil' stick up before it will move back or forth....

there is more than just that. i had one that wouldnt switch n i found from the other owner that it would get stuck so would put it in gear and and switch it. if trailprotrailpro moving other than just rollin back or front dont switch it cuz that will cause issues with the drive gears in the case. ive got a stripped and broken gear from switching other than at a walking speed. i have also seen the high low fork broken so it stays in high or low.
