Dumb 85 250R Kiehn Choke Question

Is the choke up or down on the stock Kiehn carb? It idles great when it is in the up position and as soon as I put it down it dies. Any help with this appreciated thanks guys!!

Up is choke on, on my 200x.

If its the same direction as the 200x, you might have a plugged idle passage or cold enrichment jet, depending on the design of the carburetor.

On an 85 250r, you push the lever down to actuate the choke. Which in turn lifts the plunger on the other side of the carb.

hey D-dub sorry I did not see your post until right now. it idles great when it is in the up position but as soon as I push it down it just dies...any suggestions?? Thank you!!

up is choke on take the bowl off and give it a good cleaning with carb cleaner, did you try to simply turn the idle up?

thanks cattle! i cleaned it pretty good the first time but might take it apart and try it again. Yeah I warmed it up and came back and adjusted it to where it idled in the choke position but now I know that down is run so I will try and adjust it accordingly. Thanks again Cattle!!
