My carb is in the tank cleaning itself as I type. It's off of a '82 Honda 185s and it has never been apart. I have three different manuals and everyone of them shows a needle jet holder with a needle jet. There was absolutely NO needle jet in this carb. period. It also says that the slow jet cannot be removed since it a press fit but mine has a screw in jet and I removed it. Has anybody run in to what I got? My books sure have me puzzled.

Zeeker, If you noticed, the date of issue for that shop manual was 1979. There could have been some line changes or parts availability issues between date of issue and when your trike rolled down the assembly line. It's been so long since I had my 82 carb apart that it's not funny. We would be better off seeing pics of your carb than the manual. But whatever it has, it has. I guess the trike ran at one time. So put it all back together and see what it does. Worst comes to worst you have to take it apart again and go from there. I trust you aren't mixing the 2 jets up? Just asking. LOL

hmmm..... sounds a bit whack IMO.
Does your S run? or is it a project? Your needle jet is the pencil thing that goes under the float into the holder.
If you did not have one your carburetor would leak gas horribly.
There are no press in slow jets for a PD that I know of.
All my carbs have had screw in jets, and press on limiters on the jet stack.

Hey Veal, I just went out to the garage to check the date on my Clymers manual and it's a 1981, so there is a good chance Keihn made a design change. Hell, It ran before. (20 years ago)

I would suggest going to bikebandit.com and finding your model and visually comparing every part, my 82 carb is nothing like yours.
Just select the year and model and a diagram will pull up showing all parts.

I just rebuilt my 85 ATC 110 Keihen carb. There is a needle jet in between the needle jet holder and the body of the carb. When you look into the throttle slide area with the slide removed, you can see the needle jet.
After I took my needle jet holder out, I was able to stick a phillps screwdriver in the slide opening and tapped the needle jet out. If there isn't one, I would imagine that someone forgot to put one back in there.
As for the slow jet, my Keihen has a removable slow jet which I replaced so that seems normal.

oops, i think i just mislead ya. I was thinking float needle.
bobo is 100% right. Those needle jets are crucial, and come in different sizes, so I would look up the # for your elevation.

Man, if there was a jet up in that hole and it fell out and I didn't see it I'm in deep s#%*. There sure ain't one in there now. I'll be on my hands an knees on the garage floor tomorrow. Because you said yours also had a removable slow jet, now I just don't know what to think. The carb had never been apart before so surely it wouldn't have run without it. They don't come in a kit do they? I haven"t opened mine yet.

Well I got a rebuild kit for mine. Was cheap from my local parts store. Only like 15 dollars plus tax. Came with all the jets including the needle jet. The one thing that threw me was that I didn't know that you were supposed to turn the screw on the bottom of the bowl all the way so that it was seated after you put the carb back togehter. I was wondering why the hell my carb was leaking. LOL. Turns out that bottom screw is a bowl drain screw.

Also when you look into the main venturi of the carb (looking from the choke end with the choke open), you should be able to see the top tip of the needle jet directly below the slide area. When I look in the choke area, I see brass where the top of the needle jet sits. It pokes up about a millimeter or so above the venturi.

Hallelujah!!!!!!! After sweeping and sifting dirt for an hour, my thoughts leaned toward ordering up a new piece from e-bay. (Found a few tidbits I dropped a long time ago). So I pulled the carb body out of the tank for MORE closer inspection. The little brass nub that stuck up in the venturi was still there. Now, I've rebuilt more than a few lawnmower carburetors and parts like that are normally just pressed into the body. I never gave it a thought that that little piece was supposed to fall out. With all the varnish inside, I would have had to drive it out with a punch. Well after a night of soaking-----a little push------and out she popped. (I got a woodie). Back in the tank for some more chemical action and I think we'll be good to go. Thank you so much for all your comments guys. They sure helped..............zeeker

OK, It's all nice and clean and going back together BUT when I pushed out the needle jet I didn't pay a lick of attention which way was UP. Can anyone give me a clue? Picture one or picture two?
