never had this problem before, pops right out of neutral.

1985 200es is not starting while searching for spark somewhere I noticed the wires next to the range selector knob were cut so I need to get some connectors back on that. would that be why it wont stay in neutral.

if I hold the shifter down and push it stays in neutral but pops out as soon as I take pressure off the shifter.

It's probably all the way down. If not, then it's probably 1/2 up from 1st.

would there be any problem that would make it hard to find neutral or stay in neutral. other than heat and mosquito's biting you to make it really aggravating.

drinking a beer now, that solves problems sometimes.

You could also try playing with the clutch adjustment too.

ok, I will try the clutch adjustment.. the wind is picking up so that might help with the skeetos.
