Maybe the one way gear. Does the kick start work? My one way gear is shot so I can only start with the elec. start... when you shut it down, does it make a whirring noise?

no the kick start doesnt work anymore, is the one way gear an easy fix or an expensive time consuming fix.
Is it okay to ride even though its making that noise

I asked the same questions when I got mine a few months ago... you gotta split the cases to fix it, so I was told to just use the elec. start and it will be fine.

You do not have to crack the cases to change the one way gear. I did it on mine. The gear was about $50, and I replaced a couple seals too. Mine was as others have described- the kick start wouldn't work, and it made a whirring noise when you shut off the engine. The noise yours is making sounds like there might be something wrong with the ratcheting mechanism of the kickstarter, but that's just a guess.
Also, please be patient. Most of us come here to get away from the pressures of "real life", and they answer each other's questions out of kindness and enthusiasm for the sport. If members feel you're making demands, you won't get as many answers as if you're just patient and wait. Believe me, I've been guilty of it too!
