I found this bike for sale bought it on impulse friend of a friend deal i got to looking around and can't find any tags or stickers
only thing i found was a stamp on the frame *** TB01-2001694*** just wondering what it is because looks like it's a 200 but with a 185 headlight pull start no reverse and no suspension front or back and no racks ever on it not even from the factory will post pics up later just haven't uploaded yet

That's not a full VIN, when you get the whole VIN number punch it in here: http://atcvin.webs.com/

could be a very early 200, like a 1980 or so, if the round headlight is original

That's what i was thinking from looking up them on the net, because most of the 82 and up have suspension forks on the front

My main reason for asking is i bought from the original owner and he parked in a carport and well sofar i haven't been able to get the motor spin i think it's seized up but i put some marvel oil in the spark plug hole going to let it stay over a day or so and see if i can get anything out of it he said he parked it running, carb looked gummed up had old fuel in tank, but i was going to look in to possble upgrade motors or swaps or even a good website for rebuild kits and other parts

Only 1 year of the larger atc's had a round headlight and that would make it a 1980 185 . Check out the cylinder it should say 180cc .

it may not only be the piston siezed or stuck it could also be the valve train or the crank, if it has oil in the case most likely it wont be the crank.give a real good soaking, good luck

The easiest way to get the piston unstuck is to pull the motor out, and take off the top end. Soaking it is great, but either way it is going to need new piston rings, and a hone to clean up the cylinder. Your doing the right thing by soaking it, but you really want to use penetrating oil - it works much better. The top 3 that I can think of is PB Bleaster, Kroil, or Liquid wrench. Supposedly the best ever penetrant oil is a mix of 50/50 between acetone and power steering fluid. I have tried this on a very similar situation to yours - I picked up a Yamaha 200 that has been sitting since 1986! The piston rings were froze BAD in the cylinder, and after soaking it with this mix, I got it to come out with a piece of wood and a hammer. Prior to that, I hit it until I was blue in the face, and it didnt budge! Try this, its better to take the top end apart anyway - so you gan inspect the vlaves, cam, piston, con-rod, etc, - Then you know you will have a good reliable machine. Good luck!

I got to really searching it today and it is an 1980 atc 185 the vin lookup was correct and i inspected the engine and found under tons of grease tbo1e-2001852 on the block, when it comes to being a stuck piston i got tired of waiting for some ideas to work and just took it apart this afternoon after the teardown and cataloging of parts the head is in great shape lil to none when it comes to wear on cam and rockers, timing chain is very clean, valves need to be cleaned and resurfaced piston and rings are shot and so was the cylinder to much rust to hone. i think bottom end looks good no rust and when i removed the cylinder head the bottom end rotated perfect no noise or slack. Now my question would be the best ideas for putting a new topend kit are there any good places to buy from, and what about putting better front fork setup i would like to keep my 25 up front

A nice tork cam and a decent aftermarket exhaust should do it .
