Engine/high heat paint, the 500* stuff from Walmart/any auto store should work. Enamel paint, I'd think.

1200 degree header paint is what I use . Need to let it dry over night before you run the motor and it last .

Is 1200 or 1500/2000 really needed? Not sure what temp they get up to, engines or pipes. Hoping to paint my engines and pipes (along with every other part!) soon so any info appreciated.

500 degree is fine on the tail pipe but will not hold up on the header / head pipe . So to answer you question Yes 1200+ degree is needed . painting the motor itself 500 is fine .

Use PJ1 VHT Header Paint, it looks kind of like OE when cured. I did it to my Air R and 200X, looks good.

On the cheap some of that high heat paint for grills available at wal-mart. A better job would probably be a high-temp powdercoat.

VHT brand header paint. The head pipe gets very hot, it is subjected to a jet of flame from the exhaust.

Is PJ1 the favorite type of paint as opposed to Rustoleum? Only seem to have Rustoleum at all stores, most common around here.

I'm stripping and repainting my old enduro, frame, engine, body work and all. Would like to know best brand, not just for a head pipe. Sorry to thread jack

Harry is right, prep is the key. ALL rust must be removed prior to painting or it will not last and a high temp powder coat. The best advice is to do it right the first time even if it cost a little more.

POR-15 makes a good high temp black header paint....

engine block paint works the best in my experience.

Harry, Nickel plating holds up better to high heat, and is a smoky chrome look. That would look good on anything IMO.

I never had any luck with the engine or pipe paint, bbq paint works great.
TheRealFatShady - rustoleum seems to have taken over duplicolor, that's why you see it everywhere now.
