For 1st generation 200x's. Just put a 83' axel assembly (with sprocket) on my 85' (which has an 84 motor), and I had to use a shorter chain. Also changed out the chain tensioners but I don't think that has anything to do with it? So a shorter chain means less teeth, quicker bottom end, slower top end? I can't tell if I'm goin' any faster because it's so smooth without the bent axel & new exhaust gaskets, ha ha, feels like I am. (I'll have to race my son on his 83, which is faster than mine.)

Why dont you count the teeth on both and get back to us?

By the way, less teeth on the back means more top end, slower take off.

:wonderingConfused now SWIGIN, they both had 41, but the chain had one less link. The chain I took off was too long even with the tensioners all the way. Explain so I can learn something here.

The long chain is streched out.

Unless you counted links, then who knows, ask the guy you got it from.

Know what SWIGIN?, that has to be it bud. The bent axel was on that side, hence like a rubberband stretching in and out. & the second sprocket is less worn. O.k., lesson for today learned, thanx.

A shorter chain wont make any speed differences only different sized sprockets will.
